Great selection of local beers on tap, and a fabulous selection available by the bottle. Not much of a wine drinker, but the wine list is extensive, and the staff seem helpful and knowledgeable. Gets very busy on the weekends — especially when the weather is good, but with a large outdoor area out the back there’s usually somewhere available to sit. Pizzas look great too!

This place is an absolute charm and I love coming here! A must go if you’re in the area and want to have some chill down time. But be warned once you’re in there its very hard to peel yourself away from the place! I spent an hour sipping on pinots and playing connect 4(they have some board games you can play) and would have happily stayed there all night! This place is verrrry popular so if you wanna come here with a group of mates make sure you call in and book. Shout out to their pizzas. My god — the prosciutto pizza is the bomb! These guys make brilliant pizzas. Theres also a vietnamese and a Japanese restaurant thats a few doors down that allows you took order and then they deliver to your table at the wine bar. Very cool!

Great wine bar over Moonee Ponds way. Odd when you first see it that the place feels like it pops out of the shopping centre, but once inside you can forget that tackiness and enjoy one of the many craft beer options or great wine. There’s a very decent by-the-glass menu with a good range of prices, which I tried to work my way through with a few great discoveries along the way, or you can just pick a bottle from the take-away shelves and add the drink-in corkage and away you go. The locals seem to be well aware of this little gem as it was pumping when we were there, with two or three birthday functions going on, as well as couples and small groups there enjoying a few drinks. If I was a local I dare say I’d be one of them on a regular basis.

I wish more bottle shops were like Valley Cellar Door. They had over two hundred wines. Each bottle listed both a «take me away» price and a «drink me here» price which was only $ 8 more. They also had several fridges of craft beer. By the glass there was six reds, six whites, a few sparkling, a rose and several taps of craft beer. We shared a vegetarian pizza and a gluten-free one that I found surprisingly enjoyable. You could also BYO food. As dietary requirements and preferences grow increasingly specific this may soon be the only way to eat out.

Hidden away in Hall St, away from the hussle and bussle of Puckle St is a few awnings. Under those awnings is Valley Cellardoor. This is a great mix of Wine Bar and Bottle shop. They have a great selection of wine and the staff are very knowledgeable about the ones they have so if you don’t know what you are after, just ask. When you find a winning wine, either order a bottle to drink in, or to take home! They do a great line of cheeses and biltong for you to snack on but for those who need a little more food, they have a selection of menus from local takeaways for you to order in. They even have plates! So wander in, try some great wine and say awhile.

What is not to like about a bottle shop that you can sit and drink in and also get food delivered by some of the nearby restaurants? Nothing, it’s all likeable, if not loveable! Whether you are holding a glass of full bodied red in the cooler months or sipping on a lighter chilled drop in the warmer months, chances are you will feel at home here. There is a great range of wines to choose from and also other beverages for those whose tastebuds aren’t tickled by fermented grapes. As other reviews have mentioned the staff and the other patrons are friendly which helps Valley Cellardoor be the warm glow in this quieter street.

Melbourne’s north west needs more places like these! Nestled in a sleepy part of town sits a warm, welcoming bottle shop and bar. You’ll find well priced Australian wines and tap beer to drink there(not too much mark up) or take away to the Indian restaurants next door. They also allow you to BYO curry if you wish to stay at the VCD. For nibbles, there are a selection of cheeses on offer.

Super friendly staff(& guests) are just the icing on the cake for what has easily become one of(if not THE) Melbourne’s best wine bars. Rotating beers on the 4 taps & the dozens of beers & ciders available in the fridge(PS — you won’t find any Carlton or Rekorderlig here and the ponds is all the better for it!), simply compliment the massive variety of wines available to drink in by the glass/bottle or take away. Feeling peckish? No problem. Either buy some cheese/nuts/olives/jerky from the bar, bring your own in or get something delivered from the many local take away joints. You’ll even find menus just inside the bar.(There’s also a BBQ in the back courtyard if you feel so inclined!) Even with a choice of the courtyard(undercover or open), inside or one of 4 tables(seating around 6ish) out the front, make sure you book a table(especially now the weather is warming up). But don’t worry if you’re on your own or missed out on a table — everyone there is so friendly you’ll end up joining a table and chatting to your new best mate by the end of the night!

For all of you winos out there, this place has a great selection of wines. The regulars go for wine tasting and cheese platters. Packed to they rafters on a Friday night, with local bagging seats early. My favourite: you can order takeaway food from local restaurants and they deliver to you in they beer garden. Can’t ask for better. Wine can be bought buy the bottle to consume at the bar or takeaway. I love this place!

Valley Cellardoor is one of those über cool, sophisticated looking places — it’s so superb in fact sitting back from the street in its California bungalow design it looks as though it may be VIP invitation only. But no siree, everybody is welcome here, the staff and owners make sure of that! The ambience here is cruisy, it’s dark but stylish; I prefer sitting outside behind the fenced area. With a plentiful wine selection and almost every other alcohol, the Cellardoor also frequently offer free wine sampling — for weeks on end! A short stroll from the train station or to the junction for trams, next to the shopping centre and a stones throw from cafes, restaurants, hotels and bars, its a perfect place to start your evening, get tipsy for free or to just chillax and enjoy the atmosphere of Moonee Ponds in a secluded oasis after work.
