We went yesterday. Saw the hunger games. Waited 10 minutes. No one at the counter No one to be found. Others waiting also. One very rushed young lady alone dealing with everything. I believe. Went into theatre. Popcorn on seats. Drink spilt everywhere. Cinema was dirty. 30 minutes of commercials before the movie But most annoying thing was we could here the music in the theatre beside us during Our movie it was very off putting.

There is honestly not much to say about such a massive cinema complex: it is big, comfortable, with relatively clean toilets and a large choice of food and beverages.
But as usual with such big venues, the place is too air-​conditioned and the food and beverages are super expensive — I mean $ 10 for a pack of Maltesers, really?!?
The really good experience I had once was that I got put into the «Studio» projection room as some sort of promotional offer — equivalent to Gold Class at and Event cinema I suppose.
You have a comfy chair, grouped with another around small tables, there are less than 20 people in the room, it felt intimate.
I would recommend it to go see a difficult or deeper movie that has a special interest for you.

Big is definitely the word for this Hoyts. Has the very American bigger is better feel to it here compared to the other Hoyts and event cinemas around Sydney. The ceilings are high and rooms are spacious.
Everything is new and clean which makes it easier when you have to fork out the price of the cinema.
The cinema offers luxury seats in Lux but the screen I was in offered table service as a couple of patrons ordered a glass of wine to enjoy over the movie. The cinema had only about 40 seats and was almost like a private screening room you might see on cribs.

This place is a joke!
Firstly, $ 21 so see a movie… So $ 63 for the family…
Then a small popcorn and a coke, $ 17… Are these guys serious?
Seeing a 3 hour movie but they will only validate parking for 3 hours… So we are over by 10 minutes and have to pay another $ 7 for parking.
After $ 87 you would expect an awesome movie experience right? Wrong… We get put in cinema 12 with a screen smaller than my TV at home. Crackly audio that was echoing… Absolutely terrible experience! No wonder people download movie at home!

This was my first movie experience here in Sydney. (first in two years, tsk tsk i know. but hey, when was the last time you saw a REALLY good movie that was worth watching?!)
[the BAD]
— The ticketing counters were outside. Trust me, there isnt short of space inside. So why?
— Door did not open till 13 mins after the movie was supposed to start. I was NOT a happy camper as there was ZERO A/​C near the door. Is this normal!!! Time to hire more people to speed up the cleaning process?
— The seat is pretty upright (i.e. similar to budget airlines’ seats) and because I am short, it was difficult to find a comfortable position.
[the GOOD]
— clean bathrooms, plenty of cubicles
— relatively clean and smell-​free
— cinema 1 was big and the cushioning of the seat was good
— you can hold birthday parties here

Keeping in line with the general vibe and capacity of the Entertainment Quarter, the Hoyts EQ is an oversized, overblown, and underattended cinema. While this might sound like an indictment, this actually leads to a great cinema experience. In my daytime fantasies of being a billionaire called Pappy Warbucks, this is the cinema complex I would build myself, in the art deco mold, with a giant foyer and a general sense of airiness. As you move through the corridors to your theatre, it feels a little like The Shining: red carpets, ornate décor, no one at all save for two creepy twins. I mean, scratch that last part. It’s just a little more luxurious in here, a little quieter, and all at the same price.
The only slight I will make against this cinema is that the kid who served us at the counter gave us a bizarre look when my sister and I declined to purchase choc tops. As though we were insane. That has perplexed me for some weeks now.

I’m not really one for big cinema complexes, but somehow Hoyts EQ gets away with it. Perhaps because it’s next to Fox Studios, so a little of that ‘Hollywood’ sheen spills over. Whatever it is, this huge Hoyts isn’t half bad.
The staff are the usual brand of spott uni students, but they’re the friendly sort. The candy bar is overpriced, but you knew that walking in. But the cinemas a newish, the seats are big and comfy, and there’s even an IMAX screen, just waiting for the next James Cameron feature (or rerelease a la Titanic).
Venture up the escalators and you’ll get to the plush La Première lounge. So overly designed it’s a little ridiculous, but then you’ll appreciate that if you’re shelling out $ 70 for a cinema trip for two. Then again, on the other end of the spectrum, Hoyts EQ has twice monthly Mums and Bubs sessions for $ 9. Combine that with the easy parking, café options and no street traffic and this cinema starts to shine a little all on its own.
