Pitiful is the word that comes to mind. Starting with the vagueness of the person greeting us on arrival who couldn’t find our booking made that same morning (restaurant was half empty, so not sure why he told us that. Dumb!). Then the slow service, followed by food that was so unremarkable. Fish pie is tasteless! Waited 40 minutes after we finished eating for the plates to be cleared. I cleared them myself in the end. Then dessert… Again tasteless. How do you remove all the flavour from apples and cherries? Nice view, yes, but food and service appalling. Will not be repeating the experience, don’t care how good the view is.

Perfect location. Very tranquil, it is hard to leave. The food was great, I had the «Full Breakfast» with poached eggs and it was cooked perfectly. The coffee was also fantastic. It’s a shame that you need to pay for parking as it costs $ 6 per hour, but my overall experience was absolutely sensational.

Burnt Orange is located in a beautiful homestead overlooking middle harbour and whilst the waitress was warm and friendly the overall experience was disappointing. We booked High Tea for two people for which we were required to pay 50% upfront, ok fair enough. But what I find hard to understand is why it took 40 minutes for us to receive any food, especially when it was a set menu and they knew exactly when we were arriving! The slow service continued when we ordered tea and we were mostly finished with our food by the time it arrived, which defeats the purpose of High Tea. All in all the food was good but certainly not worth the wait.

Set in one of Sydney’s most beautiful headlands this is a café from which you can appreciate the natural beauty of the harbour while dining on the verandas of a classic house. The staff here, particularly the maître d’, Kevin, are quick, attentive, smart and willing to accommodate their guests’ wishes. For instance we turned up after a bushwalk around Middle Head on a Sunday morning about 9.30 to find it booked out, but were seated immediately after Kevin found us a spare table that wasn’t going to be booked til a little later. The food is interesting and delicious.

Oh this place is divine! This amazing café looks over Middle Head and is open from 8:30am till 5:30pm daily, perfect for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or afternoon tea. Their meals are visually stunning and delicious beyond belief. As well as the café there is a stunning shabby chic shop filled with womenswear, children’s clothing and toys, and homewares. Prices range from $ 10 — $ 26 and is soooo worth it!

This a charming chick eatery. It has lady food, 9 women for every man and wonderful views. The ambiance noisy yet comfortable. Don’t expect steaks but relish in the pumpkin and feta pie with s quinoa salad. Not suitable for a boys night out.

The food was well presented smallish servings but reasonable in quality. The coffees were only average which was a disappointment for such a high class restaurant with the prices to match. The sound level was on the top end of acceptable.

Over looking Middle Head this little old world charm has a life in itself. If only the walls could speak. It is opposite a naval base and just up the road from a notorious nude beach. The atmosphere here… is fresh and the verandah is full of chatty customers.
My friends and I were celebrating a birthday (not mine) and the food was interesting to say something positive. It looked beautiful, well presented with lovely garnishes.
To come down the basics the Burnt Orange Fish Pie was nothing to rave about. It was lovely but I have made something similar on a Sunday night as a light meal. Maybe I just have good taste, ha. My companion had the salmon, needed more cooking, It shouldn’t be raw in the middle. Further down the table one lass had the steak. It looked great but the shoestring fries were burnt.
Maybe I am being a little critical but for expensive prices you need excellence.
The cheapest wine was $ 44 a bottle. We had two bottles, red and white. Doesn’t go too far with 6 people celebrating a birthday.
Glad we had the birthday cake with everyone at the birthday girl’s home. Then the champagne came out.

This is a ladies’ lunch/​afternoon tea place in a bush setting with harbour views at Middle Head. The star is the view. The food is average and over priced. The servers are young, slow and inattentive, spending time congregating and chatting in front of the customers when they should be working. There is a boutique store also which you must walk through to reach the toilets.

Updating my review with some comments on my latest experience at a high tea. Went here for a baby shower with a group of about 24 women. I was so disappointed with the tea. First of all, the tea was about $ 30 each. Not crazy expensive, but pretty standard for a normal high tea, but was one of the poorest value for money I’ve experienced.
On our table, there were three trays for about 12 people. Each had enough sweets for each person (1 scone each, two little tarts and a little cake), but we got one TINY sandwich finger each. ONE! There weren’t the same amount of each flavour either so you had to bargain with others in an attempt to get the one that actually looked best to you. They also only brought out one little bowl of cream for all 12 people. They also knew there were about 6 pregnant women, but didn’t make any attempt to accommodate us with more options (since there are many things we aren’t supposed to eat). We just had to all split up the few sandwiches that didn’t have smoked salmon on them.
The servers seemed like we were the biggest burden. One of them never even smiled at us once.
The only saving grace is that you could order as much coffee and tea as you wanted. Usually coffees aren’t included in high teas. But honestly, I didn’t really need $ 30 worth of coffee and sweets.
It’s sad, each time I go here I am less and less impressed. If it weren’t for the view and atmosphere, I’d have no reason to ever go here again.

If you don’t know this place exists you’re sure to miss it. From far it just looks like a rich family’s house nestled slightly up hill within the bushes. But for those that know the place, it’s called Burnt Orange.
It was a hassle to get there and the signage was very vague. There is a small one way carpark before the place (you need to be über lucky for parking spots to find something here). Drive a little more and there is a much generous car park overlooking the sea.
Because it’s next to the sea it’s quite cold if you sit outside, but then there’s not many seatings inside as they used it for selling unique novelties. And because of this reason you have a selection of blankets before you get seated (as a guy I refused to get one and ended shivering for 1.5 hours).
Decent selection of food. We got the seafood shepherd’s pie and spaghetti. The food got quite cold which was a shame and when the seafood got cold it had a mild seafood taste. Rosemary chips (for those that know me you’ll sea bowls of chips quite often) was not what we expected. You see the rosemary but can’t taste the flavour — go the tomato sauce life saver!

Beautiful location with very good food and service. I recently had the pleasure of dining here after our friend’s wedding before they jetted off for their honeymoon. It truly is a special occasion sort of restaurant with prices on the steeper side of the mountain. I ordered the fish special of the day which consisted of a perfectly cooked salmon slab with super crispy skin, atop warm japanese soba noodles dressed in seaweed, shitaki mushrooms and micro greenery. The coffee was also delicious.

Being a Mosman local Burnt Orange used to be a nice place for lunch. Especially when taking your Mum.
Having had already one ordinary experience I haven’t been back for a year and I won’t be going back again.
Food average, staff ordinary & manager walking around with stains all over his shirt.
If you want to go then make sure you are not seated in the area next to the kitchen. Staff behave like it’s their frat-​house.
Shame.

I’m not certain I can come up with enough superlatives to describe Burnt Orange. This gorgeous eatery/​retail venue is one of my top destinations when visiting the Sydney area.
The lovely verandah provides an atmosphere of casual elegance combined with exquisite views.
After many visits, I can say I have enjoyed every morsel of food served here, whether it was brunch or lunch fare.
Some might consider the prices a little excessive, but I figure I am worth it. The view, the quality of the food, the ambiance are all included for one fair price. I am confident you will not regret visiting this treasure!

Even if you aren’t a tourist, this is still an exceptional place to spend a lazy Sunday brunch, lounging under some classic Aussie verandah action, sipping your posh loose leaf tea and wishing the rest of your day could only be this regal.
Unless you’re a Mosman yummy mummie, this is likely a special occasion establishment, saved for friends/​relatives that you haven’t seen in ages. So don’t be surprised when the monarchical atmosphere inspires the most awkward of conversation topics like politics, religion, money, weight and America’s gun control (or lack there of). But at least you’ll be choosing your words carefully over one of the most lavish brunch menus Sydney has to offer!

Relaxing café, million dollar views, great ambience and a place where time slows down. What’s not to like?
Great place for a first date or to meet your partner’s parents for the first time… yeah that’s kind of a big jump but hey this place fits the bill. Also a great place to bring guests.
Kill some time browsing the retail stores or go for a walk around the park and come back for a coffee/​tea/​snacks. Maybe you could read a book or people watch, it doesn’t matter, all can be done here. Simply pleasant.

Like many other other reviewers, this is where I take visitors to Sydney for a terrific breakfast with a view. The very colonial old golf clubhouse has great views across Sydney harbour on one side and towards Balmoral/​Manly on the other and the food never disappoints, The staff are very friendly and attentive without being over the top. The fish pie on the lunch menu is well worth trying.
The only downside is that it seems everyone else has found this place and you have to book at weekends to be guaranteed a decent table.

If popular movie franchises are to be believed (and I see no reason for them not to be), sailors keep great secrets. Georges Head used to be hush-​hush Navv base, the kind that turned away anyone without a boater hat and a foot fetish. Its prime territory too, all virgin bush and dramatic cliffs.
Nowadays the area is open to the great unwashed, and one of the best reasons to visit is Burnt Orange, a giant Federation-​style verandah masquerading as a café.
On weekdays the place is swarming with Mozman housewives, lunching ladies in linen suits and floppy hats with more money invested in their collective foreheads than I am ever likely to earn in my lifetime. It makes for great eavesdropping, it’s all dahlink this and pool-​cleaner that. Weekends are pretty packed — make like a native American and get your reservation on.

A real treasure of a spot located in the Old 1930’s Mosman Golf Club in Sydney Harbour Trust at George’s Head. This is the place I take overseas guests to WOW them.
It’s primarily a café and a retail outlet but not in the usual sense of these terms. It’s set in stunning bushland with something of a water view out to the harbour from the café. The Federation building has been beautifully renovated and is grand and stately.
This is not your quick cup of coffee on a Saturday morning place. This is the place you take your future in-​laws to ask them for their daughters hand in marriage. This is the place you take granny for her 70^th or the place you take your Mum on Mothers Day. It’s a lavender ladies space. So, of course it was first choice for birthday morning tea with friends. Sat under the canopied balcony, the serving of scones was seriously generous. Two massive fruit scones, which were sadly, a little dry but helped along with lashings of butter or jam I hovered them up. In fact I missed lunch that day as a result.
A slow wander/​waddle around the retail shops after saw us mentally spending a fortune, as we grabbed at far too many gorgeous and/​or cute things on display. The kids clothing and toys are beautiful though pricey. A place to take an inheritance perhaps.
Café/​retail places like this are popular in the UK though rare in Sydney. Wafting around here could easily take all morning… even into the afternoon.
Bookings for the café are strongly recommended and essential at weekends.
Parking is pay and display but I’d recommending park further away and enjoy the walk to get there.
