«Far more than your average bakery» Inside a large dining area with cream tiled flooring, several good sized display cabinets, full of tempting choices, a full range of cakes, sandwiches, rolls, wraps, cookies. There is a daily special available, coffee & cake, at a very good price. Also a breakfast and lunch menu is available. I enjoyed a very well prepared, cheese and ham croissants, with a good Latte. The service was good, the seats comfortable, all very relaxing as I sat inside looking out at a large new raised deck, alfresco area, raining today but nice on a fine day.

Very polite service, but $ 6 for a ham and cheese toasted sandwich? Really? It’s not even like it was a super awesome sandwich — the ingredients were just what you’d get from the supermarket, I threw the ham away in the end because it was pretty nasty. Maybe I’d have more luck with the baked goods…

Food is good but service snobby and rude at times. Came here three times during the week for lunch snack, gotta be lucky and get a lady in a positive and good mood. Good seating in and outside.

I get excited about going here. I can’t really put a finger on why, maybe it’s my deep seeded attachment to bakeries. All the food is delicious, and of a high standard. It’s like a warm hug. I usually get a coffee(which of course comes with a wee biscuit), a toasted ham and cheese croissant(sometimes two), and a sweet somethin — often a custard tart or a slice of apricot or blueberry pie. If I’ve got time to sit down, the pie comes with fresh cream. The staff aren’t always the friendliest bunch, but it doesn’t bother me much. They’re quick and professional at what they do. The café is always clean, although it is a little dark but it’s a warm darkness, like the inside of a hug. The car park is another massive positive for this place(car parking in Mt Barker is an ongoing battle) it’s big and there’s plenty of turning room. I’m always able to get a park. A bakery that’s like a professional dark hug, with a big car park. What’s not to like?

Good coffee and good food. A very simple recipe for a good food experience.

Whenever I get the chance to swing past Millie’s for a vanilla slice, I take it! The vanilla slices, like much of their other food, is really really tasty. The pastry is crisp, the vanilla cream light yet rich, and the fondant top smooth and sweet. I also quite enjoy their coffee, as they make it to my liking(though the first time it was too strong and too hot, but once I told them how I like it, it was lovely). So stop in for a cake and a coffee. You wont regret it.

Millie’s Bakery is a good old fashioned country bakery, though some people would say that Mount Barker is the«outer suburbs»… Their baked goods have a good reputation and it’s well deserved. The biggest thing I find is that the pastry they use doesn’t feel dense like most other bakeries I’ve been to. You don’t feel like whatever you’ve eaten is just sitting there in your stomach for hours after you’ve swallowed it. The cakes are light and fluffy and aren’t overly sweet. Sometimes it’s nice to just buy a cake and sit outside on the benches just watching the world go by. Simple pleasures…
