Cantina 663

Great atmosphere! On an aesthetic point of view, i couldn’t help to admire the texture of the walls. The service was pretty quick and efficient — food came in about 10 mins. Oh they make the best chai latte — perfect for a cold winter morning ! I had the rye and potato hummus dish, it was a bit filling, but all the different flavours and herbs really blended well together l, I now understand why the great reviews !

I was looking forward to brunch at Cantina 663, however came away with massive feelings of ‘meh’ and thinking that I wouldn’t return in a hurry.
The restaurant wasn’t half full, and yet we had to wait for over 25 minutes for our coffee order — simple flat white and a long mac. No one really acknowledged us during that time so we had to flag someone down and ask where the coffee order was at. Breakfast arrived quicker and it was pleasant enough. After waiting quite some time for our plates to be cleared, we decided to order takeaway coffees with the waitress. Again another long wait.
We decided to pay the bill and cancel our takeaway coffee order as we had been waiting a while and needed to get going. Instead of apologising for all the lengthy waits the cashier was quite brash.
All in all the service here was sub-​par and didn’t make for an enjoyable breakfast experience.

My fiancé and I came her for dinner last night and didn’t have anything negative to say about it. The ambiance was lovely and the staff were very attentive, even cracking a few jokes here and there. The waitress came back to double check our order which is always better than them getting it wrong so there’s no qualms with that!
Then the food came out, we had the smashed potato with aioli to start and it was huge for the price we paid (13 $ maybe?). It was delicious and crispy in the outside and soft on the inside. We devoured it pretty quickly.
We ordered both the rib and the pork belly. The rib is a huge dish, the pork belly is more elegantly sized but both were very satisfying.

Cantina is one of my favourite restaurants and I have been going there since it opened. Their duck liver parfait with onion jam and chargrilled sourdough is one of the best you will find in Perth. I also had the barramundi with saffron potatoes and it was delectable. My husband had the gnocchi and he was impressed. They are running gnocchi cooking classes now for groups of 6 – 10 so that would be a fun skill to learn.
All their menu items are good so it makes deciding quite tricky! They also have an all day brunch menu so you can go anytime. Free BYO on Monday and Tuesday too!

Great place for a coffee or a meal. Be it breakfast, lunch or dinner there are plenty of yummy food options on offer. The staff are friendly and always willing to help with selections. The coffee is also very well made. This place never disappoints (apart from when it’s full and you can’t get in)

Ok so since my last reviews they have been picking up their game again. The new staff are not unfriendly but tend to ignore you at the table. I’ve had several dishes since returning and the coffee is improving again. The new staff to be much better than the old ones and their dessert (.e.g dulce de leche are phenomenal). The new sous chef lisa is amazing.

So many things wrong still. Location and ambience and design are all there.
But when I pay 25 $ or so so for a lamb salad… well I expect lamb in it. Not a _​SINGLE_​strip of lamb. It was literally the tiniest thing I had ever seen. It may as well have been called a LA salad because it sure as hell wasn’t a complete lamb salad.

Go here if. You want service equivalent to. that of a debt collector who just started knocking on your door.
I walked out at 5 pm when no one was there and 3 of the staff just ignored me for over 10 minutes.

Meh. I’ve been coming here for years, not anymore. The staff have really lost the plot. They are undoubtedly the rudest people I have come across. Food is overpriced and not worth it, but the coffee is great here. The barrista is really nice as well as a few others, but a handful of the waiters and waitresses rate as the worst/​rudest service I’ve had in Perth.

Beautiful gourmet coffee which my husband and I so enjoyed! As soon as we entered the quaint café we were greeted by an attentive staff member who gave us incredible recommendations and we so enjoyed them! The coffee was superb my only complaint is that I needed more. Our little meringue treats were beautiful! Highly recommend!

I love the food at Cantina and usually the service is good, but this time the waitress working on the outside till this morning started off being nice and friendly and took our orders. Then we asked for water and was told there were no glasses but no mention of her finding us some and she just walked off. She returned with a bottle though and two glasses out of the dishwasher about 3 minutes later so we were a bit confused. I ordered soft boiled eggs and a side of bacon but when it came out the eggs were poached (still amazingly yummy and cooked to perfection) and the bacon was missing. The waitress walked off before we had a chance to say anything about the missing bacon. We flagged down another waitress and later the waitress who took our order came back to ask if we were waiting on bacon (she looked at me as if I didn’t order the bacon, like she didn’t believe me). I didn’t bother complaining about the incorrect eggs at all but was fine with poached.
The bacon finally came (didn’t wait too long) but didn’t get an apology. I didn’t make a big deal about it though as the bacon was really lovely (but my friend got a bigger portion)
My friend’s juice was $ 8 and was just a small bottle of organic raw orange juice (it looked like fresh on the menu, and for the price it should have been freshly squeezed).
So I wish I was able to write a more positive review on a usually great place. Food after the drama = amazing. They lost a star due to the service of that one waitress and also for the incorrect order/​bottle of expensive juice. The other wait staff were really good! I would come back as I’ve had good experiences there in the past and the waitress may have been having an off day.

I really wanted to like this place. But unfortunately that didn’t happen.
Starting with poor service and ending with the flavorless zucchini, cheddar and caramelized onion muffin I’ve ordered– which was dry, barely had any zucchini in or onion, and it and tasted like an old piece of bread.
Gave it two stars because the coffee was good and the location is great.

I used to visit Cantina 663 when it first opened — best scrambled eggs in town, if I remember correctly — but I haven’t been for ages so thought it was time to drop in again. I dragged myself out of bed and arrived just as they were opening at 7:30.
The menu today was different to the one online, there’s now a new «all day» menu, and alas the one dish I had planned to get (house slab bacon, potato, chilli, oregano, apple herb salad) wasn’t on it. My coffee — long macchiato — was excellent.
I decided to try the «cheesy grits and egg, house made bacon, blood pudding crumbs, lime» ($ 20) and unfortunately found it very bland. I was surprised to find it lacking in seasoning (I was expecting it to be over-​salted if anything), and the rather sad wedge of lemon (not lime) wasn’t big enough to add any zing.
I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt but I was disappointed today, especially at $ 20. Maybe I should have tried the S’mores French toast after all.

You can never go wrong with Cantina! It’s one of my favourite places in Mt Lawley because I know they will never let me down. This review is a long time in the making, as I’ve been numerous time for coffee catchups, dinner and afternoon treats and every time I am ever disappointed.
Previously owned by the Mary St Bakery and El Publico crew, it has decided to farewell its friends and start fresh– especially with a huge kitchen makeover. It’s location is practically the heart of the ML strip and the Astor arcade only adds to its charm.
Meals are Spanish/​Italian tapas inspired and prepared with fresh, local ingredients, presented simply but unbelievably tasty! Prices are on the high side, but you certainty get bang for your buck! My favourite has to be the barramundi or the famous gnocchi, washed down with a decadent cocktail or a splosh of vino!
Also, I have been for coffee at around 4ish and if you end up staying closer to 5pm, they sometimes come around and offer you one of their daily muffins to take home — yay for free food and being eco-​friendly by not wasting delicious muffins. Talk about customer satisfaction!

Tables spill out onto Beaufort Street and into the little lane where the café is located giving patrons plenty of options for a table. The restaurants interior is simple, yet arty with distressed wallpaper and wooden furniture creating a warm, pleasing vibe.
The menu is focused on seasonal produce and the best of the best in local goods, so it is forever changing depending on the time of year. I love a restaurant that rolls with the times — gotta keep it fresh! I was tossing up between a few different options, but finally decided on the Crumbed Pork Terrine, Piccalilli and Poached Egg ($ 16). The terrine was delicous, strong and bursting with rich flavours. I’ve only had terrine a few times in my life, but I instantly fell in food love with the full bodied, luscious flavours. The terrine was served with a perfectly poached egg and pickled vegetables. The vegetables added a zesty bite to the dish and worked perfectly with the strong terrine. The added crunch of the vegetable was also great, adding texture to the dish.

Still love Cantina, this time we had share plates and a lovely glass of wine.
You can do either at Cantina and will have an amazing meal every time.

Popped into Cantina 663 for a quick bite to eat.
We sat outside to enjoy the beautiful day and to watch the comings and goings on the busy street of Beaufort Street.
For a drink I had the traditional lemonade was so refreshing and tasty! We ordered our meals I had the Jerk Chicken, eggplant and pearl cous cous salad was so tasty and delicious.
The only downside was that the service as a bit slow, we were very hungry and our meals took awhile and it wasn’t too busy either.
Apart from that Cantina is a great place for breakfast or lunch :)

While the service leaves something to be desired, the food never fails to impress. Always a sumptuous breakfast with generous portions and incredible herbed flavours.
A particularly enjoyable breakfast with tender scrambled eggs and beautifully cooked mushrooms on toast.
Good coffee and espresso beverages and average to high prices (we are in Perth, after all).

Scrambled eggs are always a winner! Gnocchi never disappoints either. Menu changes regularly so it never gets boring.

Okay, I’ve been converted again. The Holy Spirit has shown me the way and that way leads to Cantina 663.
I don’t know who your chef is, but I need his name, address and social security number. No questions asked. If he goes missing, don’t panic, he’s simply on vacation… forever…in my home… as a hostage. It’s all good.
I love your food. And wine. And everything. Just feed me and we’ll be friends forever!

Obviously as a Unilocaler one makes a conscious effort to try somewhere new if one is going out, but everyone needs that one place they always go to when they can’t be bothered shopping around and they just want to go to ol’ faithful: the place that has never let them down and is convenient. Cantina is this place for me.
They are open three meals a day, every day, with the exception of sunday night. But lord knows they need the rest after slogging it in the kitchen all week assuring they pump out consistently top quality fare. If you are there for breakfast, get the… well really 90% of dishes at Cantina are a safe bet.
If Cantina is in your ‘hood you need to try these items in your lifetime: the scrambled eggs, the gnocchi, the coffee. Any everything else here too if you have the stomach space!
