A park to park. As far as parks go.. . Cploey doesn’t fair up too badly, but considering how funky and creative Mt Lawley is.. . I s’pose I felt a little shortchanged. The designated play areas with circular boundaries and random brick monument, that for me served little more than as a seating station, were pretty average. I like the undercover podium, it reminded me of one in glebe park that I used to lie under in Canberra.. . until it became well known as a junkie hang out and I moved on. The facilities are convenient, a pleasant– almost eerily abandoned place to picnic or reflect.. I also noticed here that the water fountains resemble bottle openers, must just be a WA thing?! Copley for some.. .

Before my friends and I were old enough to drink legally, and without a parental-free house to haunt, the logical solution was to take our underage drinking to a park. Copley Park was protected enough from any pedestrian traffic, shielded by trees from busy Beaufort St and very few, if any visitors meant no one was witness to, or disturbed by our shenanigans. There is a spacious set of play equipment and BBQs; for when we may have needed to conceal bottles of Smirnoff, or else ourselves. A pergola with a power point meant we could plug in our music and provided us with a platform for dancing. This park saw more teenage parties than I can remember; so many funny memories and never once were we robbed of the social pleasantries Copley Park provided us. Whether mischievous or simply harmless picnic, playground fun, your recreational activities at Copley Park will most likely come with the luxury of solitude.

I giggled like a child when my cousin and I stumbled upon this park the other day. Having recently moved into the area we decided to go for a bit of a wander, and found ourselves delightfully distracted by the greenery and play equipment of Copley Park. It is the ideal place for locals to go to read under a tree, watch their children play, or have a family barbeque. The park has a huge expanse of grass, a basketball ring, a gazebo with power attached(so yes, you can bring your laptop), two barbeque plates, public toilets, plenty of on-street parking — and some of the best play equipment I have ever had the privilege to play on.
