Had a fantastic breakfast of buckwheat pancakes that nearly ended in a bad belly as I foolishly assumed«V» was for vegan(it’s clearly written so totally my fault for missing it!) Half way thru my meal, I asked the staff and(who I can only assume is) the owner apologised to me(for MY mistake), informed me for what the dairy content was and offered me a tonic which minimised the damage from dairy and meant my intolerant belly was spared! If only all cafes cared for their patrons this much :) A thousand times, thank you :)

The food and coffee are beautiful, you’ll pay for the quality though. But the biggest let down is how rude the staff are, they appear to not care less about customers. I thought maybe it was a once off so I went back and I had the same experience. It’s a shame because it has the making of a very cool café.

Go for the food — it is fresh and tasty. Don’t go for the coffee — average at best. This is a small bustling café with something for everyone. I had the avo/pesto/goat cheese on toast. I had them swap the toast for sprouted bread and added a poached egg. It was amazing. I’ve found my new fave breakfast food. I’ve taken veggie and meat loving friends to this café with equal success. If you have someone with special dietary needs, this is the café for you. If you are looking for ample space, maybe not — it is very cosy.

Yummy Heathy food with inside and outside seating. They have gluten free bread so you can any of the sandwiches or poached eggs on toast which is great. Relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff

OK fair cop, I have been here a few times without getting on with the review. New-ish kid on the block in Naremburn, Sprout has an adjoining whole food grocery, and a nice back terrace that is seemingly impossible to get a table on(so far) cos it is always chockers. Food is kinda paleo, kinda not, but sure to be something for everyone. If you are vege or vegan or paleo or a carnivore you are sorted. So far I have had the burger(v good) the pulled pork burger(really good) and one of the salads(yep you guessed it good too) and of course a number of coffees(also good, in fact most excellent). Some novel food combinations but it is generally all healthy green goodness with clean protein choices and generally healthy carb choices — although one or two spectacularly unhealthy carbs yay! Looks likely to be a regular haunt for us. Don’t go, you’ll never get a table and probably hate it, full of scowling locals… ;-P

Great food but it’s expensive. The owner is rude but the younger staff are always gorgeous and friendly. Word of advice, don’t get take away, it’s much better to eat in. The food takes ages and they are constantly shooing you away as you wait. Also, there’s no parking at all so you have to schlep it across Naremburn to get there.

Willoughby is finally getting cooler! We’ve got a small bar. We’ve got a wholefood café. We’re finally loosening the grip of the old people and schoolchildren and 80s dags that washed up here like waves of flotsam after the recession and never left. Here are words associated with Sprout that will tell you all you need to know: kale, quinoa, organic, green bowl, activated, superfood. I was a tad hungover so eschewed the benefits of a green bowl for an organic beef burger with relish on a triangular bun(triangles are back, yo!) that was a proper two-hand job and left me feeling way better than a milk bar burger might. The coffee is all kinds of great too, as is sitting outside on a milk crate in the little corner nook between two shops like some kind of breakfast creep.

A short trip down Willoughby road and you’ll notice a new kid on the Naremburn café block. This café & grocer combo has only been open for two weeks but is already drawing the attention of the locals. We needed to have brunch before another roadtrip and the missus suggest we try this place as she had noted it had opened recently. I guess the first test of any café is their coffee. Sprout has great coffee and it was well made. No complaints. I ordered the Egg & Bacon Roll(see photo) which came with rocket, tomato relish and aioli. The rolls itself was one of the triangular Brasserie Bread rolls and with the fillings quite literally became a handheld meal. I appreciated the fact that the fried egg still had a runny yolk — as I have a personal dislike to hard cooked yolk. The missus stepped up and ordered the Big Breakfast with added Avocado(see photo). The whole meal was good, and we both noted that the poached eggs were cooked perfectly(slightly done but still runny). — yeah I’m a runny egg fiend. We sat out the back on the Terrace and enjoyed the fresh air whilst looking at their new garden set up. The man in the store explained that they were growing a kitchen garden down the long side of the backyard and that the smaller patch nearer our table was likely to be some citrus plants. All in all, a nifty little spot that we’ll be visiting again.
