Seriously. Yum. It’s a casual outdoor restaurant with simple well designed dark semi-industrial style. They’ve focused on good, fast service, especially for the lunch crowd. The food was fabulous, too. Oh, and obviously the extensive Squires on tap ensemble is an excellent choice.

I have visited this place twice before heading to Hunter Stadium for sporting events. It’s really nice on a sunny day and not so bad on a crap one. The usual excellent selection of James Squire beverages, beers and ciders and a nice list of Australian wine. The food is not cheap, but there’s quite a good selection on offer. Everything from burgers, schnitzels, mains for meat and fish, as well as ribs and specials. The entrée sizes are generous and the food is fairly fresh. I had the beef burger this time around and found it a bit bland, which was a shame because it has beetroot relish and I love beetroot! But my friend loved the same burger(perhaps helped by adding my unwanted rasher of bacon) and the baby back ribs special also got a big thumbs up. The very rustic/industrial landscaping of the foreshore on Honeysuckle drive is just lovely. Highly recommend a trip here if you’re visiting for the day or heading to a sporting match at the Hunter.

We had lunch here on a Friday for a work function. I easily made a booking a few days before for 17 people and pre ordered all of our meals in the morning. I found the whole process easy and the staff were all very helpful even when changing our order at last minute. When we arrived for lunch it wasn’t long until our lunch was on our tables ready to eat. The atmosphere was really nice and option of indoor outdoor dining with really nice décor and style. Will gladly go back.

A newcomer to the Newcaste Wharf restaurant district, the Maiden has a pretty good feel with indoor and out door seating, and a bit of a view to the water despite being a distance back from the edge. Being a member of the James Squire family, the range of beer is pretty good, as you’d expect, and the food isn’t too shabby. Our dining companions happily scoffed a chicken and a beef skewer(watch out these are quite big and make a bit of a dramatic entry!), and fish(can’t remember what kind) with a Thai salad(yum!). My veggie pumpkin salad was pretty good, and while the dressing was tasty I found that my salad was somewhat drowned in it. Family tip: high chairs are available.
