Cream on King

Cream on King is remade vintage done right. Similar to its counterpart on Crown Street (rightfully named Cream on Crown), the reconstructions and print /​pattern variations are delightful.
I have this shameless love for cowboy shirts with the pearly snappy buttons and the scalloped pockets. To the left of this skinny shop, you will find a couple racks of these, but wonderfully redone for the ladies. With styles that have peekaboo shoulder cut-​aways, or midriff exposing tie ups, you can be vintagey and sexy all at once (which, lets face it, is NOT always a given when dealing with vintage).
Teeter on over to the boys side and you’ll find this same style of cowboy shirt in its original form. Hey guys, from the point of view of a little hipster-​loving, San Francisco born female, try one of these shirts with a leather motorcycle jacket over it. BAM. Insta-​hot.
The prices here at Cream are midrange for vintage. Not as good as if you sourced the same shirt from Vinnies, but could you? Probably not. The bonus here is that they’ve done all the sorting for us and elected what the Sydney edgy, «in» crowd should be wearing. I realize it’s not for everybody, but they definitely had me at plaid.

Cream’s window display is made up of no frills cans of food and tubs of re-​hydrated milk. I get what they’re on about — buy recycled clothes. Go no frills. Don’t buy brands. But to be honest, I’m just sick of people adding a touch of indie chic to their store by filling it with cheap canned food. Unless there’s a tornado coming that I haven’t been informed of.
Regardless of this, Cream was one of the original stores in Newtown to begin recycling and redesigning vintage clothes. They have sweet floral dresses and skirts, men’s and women’s jackets, pants, jumpers, shoes, bags and an extensive flannel collection. Their boots selection is the highlight for me and they rock an awesome selection of sunnies for $ 25.
«This place reminds me of Cream,» I overheard a girl saying to her friend whilst checking out another recycled clothing store in Newtown. Whilst similar stores continue to pop up, Cream is the one that we all know best and thus it remains a strong contender for the coveted title of cream of the crop.

This mens and womens vintage clothing store on King st, does great tees, jackets and shirts for men. Its the sister store of the one located on crown street, cream on crown. Its great to have a good browse in this store and its easy to find what you’re looking for as everything’s been merchandised well in the store, all the racks are neat and has been put into the appropriate section of trousers/​shorts/​basketball singlets, etc… Like most popular vintage stores, the digging has been done for you, so there is no crap to shift through to find the treasure, but this is something I like to do in the op shops and 2^nd hand stores, it feels like you’re really finding treasure when you get those sweet, faded pair of jeans, from 10 years ago for $ 5. So for me, the main downside here is the price, because they’ve done the scrounging, the searching, the travelling, (which is all part of the journey of a good vintage wear item) the prices you’ll pay on an item like a tee will be around the $ 30 mark-​which is fair and worth it for an item you’ll love and won’t find anywhere else, but is just that harder to part with when you’re used to paying $ 4 for it. My favourite items here are the native American and animal tees as well as the cool selection of boots and glasses.
