Nope, nope, and just nope. The Summerhouse has been a café staple at Colonnades for as long as I can remember. It’s always evoked memories of grandparents eating coffee and cake. So today mum and I decided to give it a go. I’m wishing we hadn’t. I do know that it was sold a few years ago and maybe that’s why it has gone downhill, but I’ll be surprised if it’s around for much longer. While the staff were friendly and efficient, the coffee and the food is just bad. Both mum and I ordered a «baked» potato and a large latte. I say«baked» as I’m fairly sure that the potatoes were microwaved and then just topped with salad. The cheese wasn’t even melted. It was just grated cheese all over the plate, with a warm potato underneath and salad. The plates looked dirty. Not covered in food or anything but more greasy fingerprints and the coffee was burned and bitter with bad foam. In this day an age, you can’t get away with poor coffee. People now know what a good coffee is. Verdict: this place needs an overhaul. It’s got potential, but coffee training is a must at the very least and whoever prepares the food needs to ask themselves«is this what I would want?» I won’t be back anytime soon.
