My husband and I visited this place on a Thursday night at 5pm. We hadn’t booked but there were tables free. It cost $ 15 an hour and the beers were between $ 7 and $ 8. The atmosphere was good and they played good back ground music. Everything was clean and tidy.

As Sorcha M said, I am a little confused as to why it’s called ‘family pool and snooker centre’. I would say this pool hall is far from family friendly, although I think it actually encompasses everything that comes to mind when you think ‘pool hall’. It’s slightly dingy, a little rough around the edges, dimly lit and in the heart of Northbridge. I went on a Saturday night as we were wandering along in search of the car park, and thought we would stop in to have some fun. I will say that I know nothing about pool, and it took us maybe a good half hour to finish up our game, but I had a fair amount of fun playing. There are plenty of tables, and almost all of them were in use when we came in, so were directed to the private room at the back(I’m assuming where you can book birthdays etc). The tables were packed in quite tightly in the main areas, but it didn’t seem to cause any problems. There is a(very small) upstairs section that is similar to an arcade, with car racing machines etc if that takes your interest. The staff weren’t overly friendly or overly helpful, and it’s a shame that I almost expected the level of service we received. We had a 2 minute interaction with the staff there, and that was enough for me!

This is where you go when everywhere else in Perth is closed. We have ended up here many a night when you just don’t want the night to end. You can play a game of pool or snooker and continue to drink into the wee hours of the morning. it is quite surprising how good you can get at pool by the odd game here and there. I remember one night my friend and I just went straight to play a game of pool instead. The last time we were here I found the other punters pretty moody and they weren’t very friendly, however in the past we have had some good times here with the other punters. Its a good place to meet new friends… well friends for the night anyway.

I was here the other night with a couple of friends, and by the other night I mean a Tuesday at 12:30am. We were there out of desperation as being Perth there is nowhere to drink on a weeknight past a decent bed time. So we wandered into this dingy slightly dodgy pool hall. Not once have I ever seen this place more than half full of people but thats probably a good thing because there are heaps of tables jammed into the space. They have a small bar which served booze until a little after 1 on said Tuesday, and the music videos of Example and Swedish House Mafia playing in the background seem a little out of place. Maybe thats just me

For a pool and snooker centre in the heart of Northbridge I think it’s fair to expect that Pot Black would have a pretty good atmosphere — I was wrong. The staff were mostly foreign, the centre was practically empty and the vibe was plain crap. I’ve heard that Pot Black gets quite rowdy, but by the looks of things and the people walking in and out it seems sleezy, filled with odd groups of men and I certainly won’t be back nor do I understand how they call themselves a family centre.

Located in central NB, Pot Black is a great place to go and chill with your friends and shoot some pool. The small bar at the front of the store can makes the games far more interesting too, if you are so inclined. My favourite part would have to be the Street Fighter 4 arcade machine at the front of the store though. Why use your whole arm when you can just use your hands? Common sense really. Also a good place to escape to if you’re at Connections with your friends and you really just don’t want to be at a gay bar.

Pot Black is a place where you’d half-expect Asian gangs to use for gatherings. It’s part seedy and part tech, with pool tables fighting for attention with arcade games. There are two ways in which you can have a game of pool at Pot Black — you can rent out a private room, or you play on the various tables in the public area. The private rooms are not much to write about — they basically consist of a room with a pool table in the centre, with some stools and tables on the side. They are bare of facilities, so essentially you are paying for a private pool table. The tables in the public area are on the expensive side, and there are cheaper places to play pool in Northbridge. Pot Black is an average place to go, unless you want to goggle at Asian fashion, being that it seems to be a popular hangout for Asians.

Pot Black is a strange sort of a place. They call themselves a ‘family pool and snooker centre’, but there is no chance I’d let me kids wander around here on their own. Then again I don’t have any so I don’t have to worry about that! The facilites in here are good, they open until 4am on weekends, and they have a liquor licence — all positive attributes. They also run regular pool leagues that cater for anyone from a social player to serious players. However, the prices in Pot Black are so ridiculously high you’d wonder why anyone would bother coming here. It costs $ 15 to rent a table for one hour($ 13 on weekday mornings, but who plays pool then?). Compare this to a game of pool in any of the bars around the city — they cost $ 2 per game, and you wouldn’t play more than three or four games in an hour — that’s a maximum of $ 8 to play somewhere with a much better atmosphere and considerably less weirdos hanging around in the corners! Seriously, what are they charging the extra $ 7 for? It’s certainly not for the décor, the lighting or the cleaners. Save your money for an extra beer and play at the Brass Monkey or Mustangs, both of which are within a 2 minute walking distance.
