The Hellenic Centre is a great live venue, and it is a surprise it isn’t used much to host music events. It is a spacious venue with a large stage and a quality PA. One memorable gig involved a concert with a break in the middle to eat freshly-​made bread, cooked in various bread makers placed around the edges of the room. The Hellenic Centre has a lot of potential and since there is a need for more live venues in Perth, it’s an area the Centre could comfortably enter.

Leave it to the Greeks to name the one church after two saints. St Constantine & Helen Church is a rather beautiful building opposite Russell Square in Northbridge and inside is stunning, too, all Byzantine in structure and decoration.
But you wouldn’t know they’ve held a few raves next door at the associated Hellenic Centre, would you? But I’ve been to a couple, I swear. The Centre is a good place to hire out for such events, and that it plays host to dance parties on the odd occasion is proof that the Greek Orthodox do have a good sense of humour.
Doors might be shut in the day, but if you’re ever up Russell Park way, do drop into the Church. Like I said, it’s very pretty.
