Subway. In Northbridge. Good call, Subway! It seems to have taken this chain a relatively small amount of time to proliferate the world and now they seem have conquered the final frontier: Northy, a mecca for drunken people craving all sorts of concoctions. Northbridge Subway is win win for all involved. Win for the chain. Drunk people are exceedingly sentimental and Subway has stamped itself clearly on the Australian culture. I would like to put a recording device outside this shop and take note of the number of times drunk girls yell, in an unnecessarily yet obligatorily loud intoxicated voice«Subway! Oh my God! I love Subway!». Win for the clubbers and pubbers too. The joy of seeing one of your favourite chains emerge before you like an inspiring oasis after a taxing night out really is a true joy to behold. I went in to this lucratively positioned chain on Saturday night and it did look lucrative. Quite packed at about 1:30 am but not over crowded. The shop was clean, the staff were friendly and provided a relaxing reservoir of reprieve on the long walk to the car.

Most chain-like fast food outlets — even the healthier, more rustic ones — tend to follow strict rules when it comes serves and proportions, but someone seemed to throw the rulebook out at Subway, particularly this one in Northbridge, and the one on Beaufort Street in Mt Lawley. Recently, I’ve had constant cravings for its Seafood Sub(that’s the one with constituted crab in it — I know, but I love the taste). Anyways, I’ve asked both here and in Mt Lawley on several occasion to stuff that bun with as much seafood as they could muster, and indeed the guys behind the counter obliged. Now that’s what I call special service in a time when retail needs to prove its positive self against the competition. Perhaps I’ve lifted the lid on this and shouldn’t have, and may never get my extra serve of seafood in my sub again, but heck, I just thought I’d share my thoughts on what generous folk they have working there.

I was reluctant to do a review of one of the Subway chains, but I think the one in Northbridge is particularly useful for two types of people in the area: 1. Backpackers The Northbridge area is full of backpacker hostels, but a lot of the restaurants in the area are wildly out of a backpacker’s price range. If you’re backpacking in the area and you’re after a decent and relatively healthy meal to keep you going for the day then shuffle on down to Subway and get a footlong! A footlong a day will keep scurvy and starvation away! You can eat half a sub for lunch and the other half for dinner — that’s two meals for under $ 10, you can’t lose! 2. Pub-goers who are sick of kebabs If you come out of a pub you’re going to have the beer hunger on you, that’s just a fact. And if you’re tired of getting the same old greasy kebabs and flat burgers on offer around Northbridge then Subway has a super tasty and significantly healthier option just waiting for you!
