Went here on Sunday night. The food was pretty good overall. The beef salad was average. But everything else was pretty tasty. I only have two complaints one was that the wait staff were pretty poor. We ask the waiter if they had tea he said no. A minute later we opened to menu to see about 10 different teas to choose from… My husband also ask for solo and the waiter said they didnt serve it but again it was featured in the menu. I think they need to have a better look at their menu so they are more aware of what they do and do not serve. Anyway at the end of the meal we realized that we had not received our rice paper rolls which we had ordered. We thought that maybe they hadn’t heard us when we ordered(again the wait staff aren’t the best). So we go the bill and we had been charged the $ 8 for the rice paper rolls. We flagged the waiter and he went to the kitchen and then came back and told us that the kitchen said we had received them. Which we certainly had not!!. I found this very rude of them. We again said we did not receive them and they amended the bill but i didn’t like the fact we had to push the point because their staff are incompetent. Also they seem to have alot of staff… But none are willing to assist you or take an order. So yeh overall food was goof but service was poor. These days service can make or break a restaurant.

This is a great place for Vietnamese, especially if you want to share a number of dishes. Speaking of dishes, we learned they are specially made in Japan for the restaurant. The dishes we tried were delicious except for two. The crispy prawns with orange sauce were great. The salt and pepper squid was the best I’ve had in Sydney. The scallops were delicious. The lemongrass beef was almost amazing. The vegetarian rice paper rolls were not good and I didn’t think much of the passion fruit desert with earl grey ice cream. The service was excellent as well.

This is it! Do you want incredible Vietnamese cuisine? This is the place to go. From the appetizers to the main courses, every dish was amazing and delicious. The beef curry was my favorite but the lemongrass chicken and dried beef noodle dish was super. The service was also very good and the place was packed — for a good reason!

Admittedly it’s a Monday night… but this place was mildly disappointing. Music is reminiscent of Vietnam’s obsession with Richard Claderman. Food was okay… spring rolls were nice and homemade. The beef rolls were good but didn’t look it and our main Prawn Bonfire was yummy. The papaya salad was also disappointing and not overly fresh. Oh well.

Best Vietnamese-Chinese fusion! Have eaten Vietnamese throughout the States & we happened upon this little gem while staying in Marrickville(just outside of Sydney). Have been treated to Minced Beef rolled in Batel leaves, Meatball Rice Paper Rolls, Prawns in a crispy pastry and Spring Rolls as «bites». They were all VERY good! For our entrée we ordered Double-Boiled Five-Spiced Duck. It’s a cassoulet of «duck soup»…what a great way to serve duck as it was tender. The spicy pork-fried rice was the best we’d ever had. For dessert we had Frozen Pyramid. It was a sorbet with a beautiful assortment of fruit. Delicious! The décor has a clean/contemporary aesthetic. The serving dishes are interesting and earthy. And, Marrickville is a BYO town… how awesome is that! We bought an Australian wine at a «bottle store» down the street that went down smoothly with the great food at Bau Truong. If you can get to Marrickville, we highly recommend this place. You will not be disappointed!

After getting over the very long list of exquisite entrees treat yourself to the signature pork chop and lemongrass dish. And for those like me who can’t have a meal without rice try the spicy fried rice with pork to go with it.

Ridiculously great Vietnamese. Every dish we had was outstanding: the oxtail and white radish soup, warm meatballs with rice paper rolls, double-boiled five-spice duck(OMG), chicken curry with glass noodles, and to cap it off, a delightful dessert of sorbets. Wonderfully friendly service in a funky space. You definitely won’t want to miss this one.

Fantastic. Great food. Apple green mango and star fruit salad excellent. Prawn cakes with sugar Cane also yum. All for $ 40/head. And the 333 beer was good too.

Outstanding restaurant in the heart of Vietnamese cuisine for the inner-west at Marrickville. The interior is fresh and colourful(unlike most Asian restaurants in the local area). Service is superb, food is beautifully cooked and there is a HUGE menu to choose from. Been here a number of times and never left unhappy. Highly recommend!

If you get tired of the surplus of cheap-and-good Vietnamese restaurants elsewhere in Marrickville, try Bau Truong. It’s only been around for a year or so, but they’ve upped the ante. It’s higher-end food, with higher-end prices, but it’s incredibly tasty. The menu is still huge, and a bit overwhelming. We shared some soft-shell crab and their«signature» marinated pork chop to start, then feasted on a huge bowl of incredibly rich slow-cooked mutton curry with an order of spicy basil roast pumpkin to go along with it. I was stuffed. It was huge, hearty, and amazingly tasty. Service is smiling and attentive. The beer and wine list is pretty good, and you can BYO wine. Even the décor is fun, with huge Chinese mask paintings on the wall, and a funky upper mezzanine level. If phở just isn’t fancy enough for you, stop by here for a real Vietnamese feast treat.

Craving for Vietnamese food we decided to head for Marrickville. We stumbled into Bau Truong knowing nothing at all about it, except that other Urbanspoon users gave it the thumbs up. The Vietnamese bites menu was amazing. We ordered 4 share plates between the 2 of us. beef mince in betel leaves were the highlight, closely followed by the beef and coconut«pâté»(amazing flavours and textures I’ve never experienced before) and the soft shell crab(could have done with extra tamarind sauce — delicious). We also had smiles on our faces because they stock White Rabbit Dark Ale. Perfect beer for washing down a great meal. Biggest surprise of all was that after probably the most amazing Vietnamese meal ever(and drinks) the bill only came to $ 58… Visit this place!

Sure we’re pretty spoilt for choice with Vietnamese restaurants in Marrickville, but Bau Truong has certainly taken it up a notch. A modern interior! A fun atmosphere! A bit of a buzz! After opening in September this year, the fully licensed restaurant has already been getting rave reviews from the locals. With two popular restaurants in Cabramatta and Canley Heights, this third addition was always bound to do well. The menu here is crazy huge and everything I’ve had so far has been great. Prices hover around $ 22 for meat mains and up to $ 35 for seafood dishes, which is a bit expensive for Marrickville but definitely worth it. I’d advise any punter to add the Vietnamese fishcakes, pork spare ribs caramelised with pepper and sizzling beef in spicy sauce to their order. This great new restaurant is only going to get busier and busier, so hurry in now before the masses catch on.
