good old fashioned fish and chips… don’t need to say anything else.

This fish and chip shop has been long-established in Erskineville. The quality of the food sets it a notch above what most others serve. The fish is not greasy, the calamari rings are tender, a nd the chips. Oh my, the chips. The good old crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside type. The gent who has held the reins of Erko Fish & Chips for many years is quietly spoken yet attentive, and cooks to perfection. The place itself is always clean which reflects well on the owners and their attention to detail. Buy, eat, enjoy.

I think that most Aussie places have average chips at best because they get them in frozen and precut. On the positive side, this chippie, a stone’s throw away from Erskineville Station, serves up some amazing chips-crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and cooked in fresh oil. They remind me of the coast, holidays and seagulls. The food is good, of generous quantity, and reasonably priced– not like some of the places where you have to whip out a magnifying glass to see your dinner on the plate after you’ve contemplated selling your daughter to afford it. This business needs more publicity and support from locals. I’ll often find the place completely deserted but this has more to do with the stiff competition on Swanson Street rather than the quality of food or service offered here.
