There’s no category in the Unilocal system for Shopping: Ghost Money.
Imagine rows and rows of tightly bundled joss paper money, papier mache clothing sets — gold rolexes included. All to offer your ancestors. There’s the incense room out the back (no gas masks offered — be warned, it’s pretty intense). Lotus lamps. Gorgeous Chinese calligraphy brushes big enough to write a billboard. 3 Star Gods — on special! Lanterns, crockery, gods of every size imaginable. Shrines, kung fu shoes, buddha babies, glass bottles painted somehow from the inside.
Upstairs you pass by a couple of swords left casually lying about. There’s a display of earthenware teapots which are stunning in their simplicity, and cheap to boot. The peacock feathers are pretty ratty though. The 6 foot high display of blingy golden dragon urns hurt my eyes. Where on earth do you put one of them?
Still looking for the right Kuan Yin to call my own, but I had a great time searching.
