The music. The vintage skates. The disco lights. Amidst THREE children’s birthday parties, I managed to SKATE SKATE SKATE. I looked like a badass in my head and tragic to everyone else as grabbing on to the handrail =/​= braking. Technique aside, I didn’t fall which is in itself a miracle. If you don’t like children in general or children on skates, avoid during school holidays and birthday party times (daytime during the weekends).

Well, Rolloways don’t make it easy to find. Hidden up the back of a gravel road passed an industrial workshop but, that makes it a little more exclusive too. This is an old school skate rink with style and they cater to all.
With roller derby posters plastered out the front– who doesn’t want to «whip it?» I jumped online and was hit with ABBA and the run down– hilarious, they also offer roller blading as an alternative and are available for skate lessons and private bookings!
From $ 5 to learn, $ 8 straight after school or $ 10 to get your «sex appeal on skates» on for Derby Rolloways is the most economical fun you could have on wheels!

This place is rad. So rad. Looking exactly as it did when you last visited (even if that was sometime twenty years ago), this is a great place to bring kids. It’s not too expensive, either; $ 8 for a two hour session plus a few bucks for shoe hire makes for a very good deal indeed. The sound system is beyond dated, but in this place that just adds to the atmosphere. If you’re a bit nervous about getting out on the floor (or know somebody who is), they run learn to skate sessions at 10am on weekend days that are a bit more chilled out and only five bucks a go. If you live in the area and have kids, this is a great thing to do on the school holidays that won’t break the bank. Lots of fun.

Walking into Rolloways brings back many memories from years ago of skating with friends on a Friday night or a week end. These days though, you can choose between the old fashioned roller skates or roller blades, which just seem so much easier to skate in.
Rolloways offers a good size skating rink with a DJ who plays some great music and of course, there are the traditional skating games as well. People of all ages are on the rink through out the sessions. As long as you can find a skate that fits you, you can join in!
Rolloways also host parties for kids, which is a great idea. They also provide the food and drinks, so that mum and dad have nothing to do, except join in the fun.
The place can get very packed during school holiday time, as the price of entrance and skate hire will suit most budgets. And do not worry too much if you can skate or have not skated for many years — they have the mandatory hand rails around the entire rink!
Whilst the night sessions are more for teens, there are other sessions through out the week where you can have a quiet skate or there are also sessions full of fun.
Rolloways also offer learn to skate sessions for the novice or those who have not skated in a very long time.
