A Groupon was the thing that got us here. Actually, GoogleMaps was really the thing that got us here. Blink and you’ll miss this awkwardly situated place below a tattoo parlor on Scarborough Beach Road. The location of this place is such a shame, as it truly competes with the more well-known Indian joints like Mela and Two Fat Indians. Food is fantastic. I was told that the old chef of Two Fat Indians works here now. This could explain why the food is top-notch. I ordered a lamb dish and I kept saying over and over that it was the best lamb I ever had. I asked the owner and was told it is because they buy«baby lamb». Huh, now that’s a head-scratcher… I thought lamb was a baby. Wait… you know what, I don’t want to know. It was succulent! Don’t you judge me!!! The ambiance of Spicy Nights suffers from a bit of an identity crisis. It Is clear the restaurant prior to was Italian. A lot of the decorum(albeit bad decorum) still exists throughout. The large TV, above the wood fireplace, plays Bollywood films. This could be a great situation on a bad date. While I found the movie playing mesmerizing, it’s in poor taste to have a TV in a restaurant unless its a sports bar. I was trying to keep up with conversation while sex scenes, fights and lavish dancing were flashing at me. I suppose I’m not as multitalented as I thought. I truly hope they were short-staffed the night I came, as it was slow as molasses. The wait times between the courses were horrendous. Due to our Groupon, we were suppose to get dessert and we questioned skipping it just to ensure we wouldn’t be there another hour. We couldn’t eat all of our food, so we asked for to-go boxes. We were charged $ 5 for to-go boxes. We were so miffed about this, that I was certain I would never return. Apparently, previous Groupon-users have been taking advantage of their coupon hence the punishment now on other Groupon patrons. I may sympathize with the fee, it is still a shame that non-abusers are equally punished. Make-up for the fee with BYO.
