I haven’t been here for years. Now I’m kicking myself.
What got me there? Watching a new outdoor area being built, that had a sign out the front saying $ 7.00 Curries in Mondays* in the RajaBar. How could I NOT give that a go as it’s just up the road from me.
I am really glad I did. There are plenty of choices from the mildest Butter Chicken up to a ‘Fire in a Bowl’ Fish Vindaloo (well, they were the options tonight)
Although the pricing is bargain basement, the flavours and serving size is anything but. All are served with Rice, Raita and Naan (Garlic or plain). *One stipulation is that a drink must be purchased per meal.
Of course there are other options from full A La Carte (with plenty of curries) and even Brazilian Churrasco spit in the Backyard Beer Garden Available Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Public holidays. 12 noon — 10pm

All I have to say is that I absolutely love this place. Despite the fact that it is what I call a ‘Railway Pub’ (namely a pub that is really close to a railway station that you can jump off the train on the way home from work, grab a beer, and then jump back on the next train) I never went here all that often, despite living on the railway line that went past it. However, as I have suggested, this is an awesome pub, if only because of the Colonial India theme that literally permeates the place. It is more of a restaurant than a pub, though it does have a front bar. One of the great things about this pub though is that there are lots of little rooms which you can book for your dinner party, meaning that you can dine in private. Certainly a place to check out, especially if you are looking for a place to have a dinner party (I’ve done it and it was great).

Really loved this place. We sat outside in the beer garden, ordered a steak and a butter chicken and a jug of sangria and sat and listened to a live performance.
The food was fantastic, the steak was cooked perfectly and the butter chicken was melt in the mouth… The naan bread was awesome too.
The only «bad» thing was that they had 1 bar staff serving so it took forever to get a drink. The sangria after half an hour still hadn’t arrived so i went to ask about it and was told that it had been forgotten. I felt sorry for the dude serving as he really was under the pump and he was so lovely about it too.
Over all though a really nice place to go for a bite to eat and chill! Will definitely be back… Hopefully next time we come they have more staff.

Came here for lunch with my nan, the staff were very polite and helpful and the churrasco chef was amazing, my meat was a little undercooked for my liking so I took it back and he cooked me a whole new meal from scratch, I had a fantastic experience.

Love this place… the atmosphere is beautiful and the beer garden is very relaxing. Menu has something for everyone and the churros grill is something special on weekends

Yeah, dig this place. Extensive drinks selection, delicious spit roasted lamb on the weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun). A big place with a lot of spots, nooks and crannies to be seated and enjoy the day/​evening/​night. Didn’t partake in the Kipling restaurant yet but will be back to give it a whirl. Friendly/​helpful staff too!

The décor in this place is amazing. There was plenty of things that we all looked at and thought we wouldn’t mind having in our places.
The staff here were very helpful and friendly. After I rang to book for a group of 15, then increased it to 17, 19 and ultimately 25 they were able to accommodate all of the changes which I am very grateful for.
With so many of us we had a good range of the menu. Some people ordered a banquet, I had the trio of curries, no one had any complaints.
Staff came to offer us drinks regularly enough and we were all placed in a smaller room together which was nice as we can become a bit rowdy when we are all together socially.
The deserts are to die for. We had a huge almost fish bowl sized desert and shared between 3 of us and there was still plenty for someone to take home.
With rekorderlig on the drinks menu I will be happy to come back here for another meal.
Downside, they cannot split the bill which makes it hard for groups. This is why they were ranked only 4 stars

Just had a nice dinner here. Went for a steak in the main bar which was tasty and came out quite quickly. The décor in this hotel is mind blowing. I don’t think there is another hotel quite like this anywhere. I have also visited the restaurant a few times and the food was vey special. I think they have live music some nights but not sure. If you come down they have able car parks. There is a happy hour Friday nights also a meat tray. Free WiFi if u buy a drink. check it out soon.

All I can say is WOW — what an awesome place. It is even better than 5 stars.
Great staff, who are friendly and willing to give you food samples if you are not sure what you feel like.

A must see for everyone who lives or visits Adelaide, it’s like a modern inside Jungle.

After driving by the Bombay Bicycle Club countless times for 5 years, we moved to Prospect a year and a half ago. Now it’s walking distance and we drive by it at least once a day. We needed a rendezvous for dinner with a friend and decided tonight would be the night.
The BBC/​Ovingham Hotel looks attractive from the outside and has just had major renovations. Not sure what it looked like before, but when we entered we were greeted with a kind of India-​touristy ambiance on steroids. It was, in fact, quite impressive and is worth a visit just to spend 30 minutes wandering around and gawking. In fact, as we were paying our bill, a customer was wandering around with a big camera taking photos. The décor is so impressive, it seemed appropriate to grab a few snaps.
The spirit of the décor is colonial India, but I think you can enjoy it without necessarily paying homage to colonialism.
We entered just as the dining room opened and were promptly seated and offered the chance to order beverages. Cold, iced still water was brought without having to ask-​especially nice on an extremely hot day.
Service was attentive enough during ordering and meal service, but slowed down a bit as the dining room filled. It was a long wait for the check, but we were busy chatting and really didn’t give any indication we wanted to leave, so we may have been the cause.
The menu is varied – something for everyone. Gluten free and vegetarian options are clearly labelled. The vindaloo offers several levels of «heat.»
We ordered a wide variety of items, mostly small serves and split things among us, so I got to taste a lot of different dishes. Favourites included the duck dumplings and the Morton Bay Bugs. Everyone seemed happy with their choices. Although Indian food is featured, we ended not really getting anything in that vein.
As we left, we took a little tour of the restaurant and hotel. There are many wonderful nooks with comfortable seating to settle in with a G&T for a quiet chat – early Sunday evening didn’t seem to be their busy time.
As we walked down a hallway, we saw a weird contraption of gears and chains. Then a guy opened a window next to them and said come around and take a look. We did. What we found was a nifty motor-​driven roasting bay with lamb, pork and other items getting yummy-​ready on rotating spits. How did we know they were yummy-​ready? Well, the roast captain who said come take a look carved a little sample off some of the items and offered us a taste. Oh wow – I’m coming back for the pork and then coming back again for the lamb. They serve it right at the roasting pit with slaw and fries-​I think for $ 20 a serve. Anyway, I probably would not have made it to the dining room if I had seen this first.
So all in in all, we had a great time, enjoyed our meal and found reasons to return. I’d say give it a go. Not many places in town offer a feast for your eyes along with your dinner.

As a big fan of a fun Trivia night (held in the bar on Thursdays) I have ventured here a number of times over the years. I hadn’t been for a fair while until I returned for a friend’s birthday last night…
The food has always been okay but never mind blowing. The venue though, is pretty awesome. Currently it’s undergoing renovations which is definitely a bit distracting though — the entrance from the new car park makes you feel like you are walking into a slightly dodgy situation as you make your way inside. The new toilets though are… AWESOME. Which sounds like an odd thing to mention but check them out and you’ll see that here they have spend more money than most people spend on WHOLE apartment décor. Crazy awesome stuff!
Onto the food — I have eaten a number of dishes here over the years however most recently I ordered the ‘bike seat burger’ as I have this newly found addiction to burgers that I must constantly feed…
The burger was good — the content was delicious featuring egg and a huge beef patty. The shape of the burger was however very annoying… I get that it’s called a ‘bike seat burger’ and I thought that was just simply a play on the name of the venue however it was not. The burger bun was actually shaped like a bike seat. A cute gimmick but not helpful to the actual dish. You see there was a substantial part of the bread that had nothing between it — due to most of the burger components being designed for a round piece of bread… it was difficult to eat with wasted space… points were certainly lost!
The chips were delicious though, so top points for that!

This restaurant is currently under renovation! If you’ve been here before, you’ll remember the sights of lions, jungle animals and what-​not all over the joint, however this is not the case at the moment. The dining area has been secluded to the main restaurant and their various function rooms for 6+ people.
According to one staff member, the owner has decided to re-​do everything. Even the carpark, seriously it wasn’t easy getting a park during dinner but we managed!
The food was well cooked, and came out within 15 minutes of ordering (maybe, I was tipsy).
I was a little surprised when the garlic naan bread we ordered came out 60 seconds before our mains started arriving, which is a tiny bit frustrating as it just removes the whole point of entrees.
I ordered the Beef Rendang curry, which was good, I also tried some of the Lamb Korma (yum) and their version of a Yiros wrapped in more naan bread with chips (also yum).
All the curries came with one large pappadam, so we started regretting buying all our starting bread about half way through.
The service here was great, very prompt and knowledgeable. Food was overall very nice but if you came for the experience of the jungle sights and a clean car park, you may be disappointed until they’ve finished!

In a word, spectacular. Great ambience. Fantastic décor. Large meals at reasonable prices. Love it.

This restaurant is great. It is so well decorated and has authentic Indian cuisine which tastes amazing. Dishes take a little while to cook however when they arrive, they are spicy, decadent and a pleasure to consume. Menu has wide variety and pricing is quite reasonable. Staff are very friendly and there is even a bar too. Would recommend to go here for a great night and for a great curry.
I shall be going back soon to sample some more things on the menu such as the Korma curry.

This place is one of those really cool unique places around adelaide. The owner has gone to great lengths to theme the Bombay Bicycle club to look africany/​indian and it does look great. It makes you excited for what’s to come.
I came here to catch up with some friends for dinner and trivia. On a Thursday night, the trivia in the ‘Rikki Tikki Tavi bar’ was full and obviously had regular fans and one giant table of excitable people. It was well hosted, however the questions were so abstract (well, for our table at least) that it seemed a bit out of reach.
During a bit of a break with questions, we ordered meals from the specials menu. I ordered beer battered fish and chips and my friend ordered the rogan josh. The food was cheap, but neither of us really enjoyed it. The battered fish was way to greasy and the Rogan josh was bland and seemed like it had been made hours before.
This place would be a great place for a birthday drinking function though!

The same guys that set up the Bombay set up the Tap Inn and other themed bars around Adelaide. It’s a great pub with a relaxing vibe, pretty good food and a well stocked bar constantly running specials. It’s nice without the novelty becoming too tacky and in your face. There’s not much I can mention about this place that hasn’t already been said.
I highly recommend going along on a Thursday night at about 7pm, to join in on the quiz night. A group called Quiz Meisters runs a fantastic little multi-​media quiz spanning historical, but mostly pop culture questions. It’s all very interactive and they play mini-​games as well to get you moving around. The prizes are generally awesome (tickets to touring shows, jugs of beer) and sometimes hilarious (when given the choice, NEVER pick the ‘mystery box’).
Unfortunately not located right in the city centre, but close enough to it, the Bombay’s good for social gatherings, dinners and casual drinks.

Chilled Monkey Brains. That is what I always think of when I go to the Bombay, and no, that is not a bad thing! Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is one of my favourite flicks, and there is so much in terms of the sights and sounds that you will experience at the Bombay that will take those of you, like me, to a happy place in an instant!
Back to reality for a moment, The Bombay is a great pub. Unique Indian décor, jungle bird and animal sounds in the bathroom (standing at the urinal and hearing a elephant trumpet is both un-​nerving and confidence bootsing similtaneously), not to mention a killer curry menu, what else could one need? Ahhhhh a gargantuan selection of local and imported bottled beer, of course!
Although this is a ‘pokie’ pub, the areas are very well separated, with the Pokies, Pub and Restaurant in completely different parts of the building. The Restaurant area is one of the best pub-​dining areas I have experienced in Adelaide, with great curries and less spicy options for those without iron bellies.
The Poker Machines are located in a very spacious section with a coffee/​lounge area attached for those ‘on a break’ (awesome couches btw). The Front Bar is wood as far as the eye can see, with a sunken booth area designed for more intimate front bar situations.
All in all, good brews, good food, good fun, and when you go don’t forget to check out the 100 beer club honor board… I’m not on there, but I seemed really hardcore for a second there hey?!

I have located here twice now in recent times, once for dinner and then also once for drinks. It is a pretty unusual mix of genres as such, however it kind of works. When you walk in you are greeted with statues of elephants and memorabilia with a Bombay influence. There is also the option of dining in a restaurant area, which is mainly devoted to fairly decent Indian cuisine.
The pub area puts the bicycle in Bombay and pretty much diminishes any trace of Indian culture, instead rather exhibiting a regular British pub feel. There are old bicycles hanging from the ceiling and when I went on a Friday there was also live music. The nice pub area is within a comfortable setting and I believe that depending on which night you go, it tolls in a reasonable crowd. Pub meals are also available.
For those of you who have been to the Tap Inn Hotel, in ways the Bombay Bicycle works within a similar layout thus serving somewhat of the same purpose. No golf here though. Summing up, the Bombay Bicycle got me coming back once and will probably have me coming back again sometime soon.

I have been a few times now and it’s pretty consistent, no training wheels on this bicycle.
I will say that I was a little confounded when I walked in the back door and I was greeted with birds chirping and alligators hissing amongst an array of other jungle noises. I really like it, it’s very India and very out there.
I think my favourite spot is the bar, the theme has been toned down but it still feels like you’re in some kind of safari hunters head quarters who has a bicycle fetish– not sure if that makes sense. The Bartenders didn’t know how to make a Martini, and maybe that’s asking too much, but points down anyhow.
It’s a good venue for functions, there is a large function room up stairs which will cater for a fair amount of people. The menu has some tasty Indian food up for grabs and I think its pretty reasonable as far as pricing goes. If a themed restaurant is your caper then take The Bombay Bicycle for a spin.
