I’ve passed this place many times, swearing i would come and try it and have always forgotten, however last night I finally came to get some takeaway dinner after work.
Just a warning — parking is a bit akward to maneuver around in.
The restaurant itself is quaint, with a few Japanese momentums on the walls.
There were a few people sitting at tables having a meal, so I was enthusiastic about what to order.
Now I’m a BIG fan of Taka’s Kitchen’s teriyaki, esp the teriyaki beef. It’s just simply delicious, cheap and very hard to beat.
To be honest I don’t know why I even try to order teriyaki anywhere else when I know Taka’s can’t be beat, however i do, and i keep getting disappointed.
And I’m afraid to say, on this occasion, it was the same.
I ordered the raw tuna sushi roll & teriyaki beef. It also came with a side of misu soup and what looked like a coleslaw. (?)
So I started with the tuna sushi, which was fine and fresh enough.
When I came to the teriyaki, I saw that it looked like most versions of teriyaki beef I had seen– very finely sliced, almost «paper sheet» slices of beef. Some rice and the side salad.
When I tasted the beef, I expected to taste what most japanese places call teriyaki, a gingery, sweet kind of flavour, which I’m not a fan of.
However, I couldn’t say there was much flavour at all. Perhaps just a slight taste of pepper.
So a little disappointed I took a sip of misu.
Now, unlike alot of people, I like miso soup. And I quite like it strong. But this was the weakest miso I had ever tasted. Unfortunately it was very bland too.

A little annoyed with myself for craving teriyaki, and not just taking the effort to just head to Old Shanghai– especially because it was rather pricey.
$ 18 for the teriyaki, $ 5.50 for two pieces of sushi…
I think from now on, I’ll stick to my sweet, simple and cheap takas teriyaki. Half the price and delicious.

Very fresh. Nothing is prepared. Which means there is always a 10−15min wait for your lunch.
Fresh means yum. So the wait is worth it.
For a bento box it’s around $ 18. Which is pretty exy!
So as much as I would rate them high on taste, I can’t rate them a 5 star on price.

Really love this place for a quick week night dinner. Is getting better and better since it first opened. Love the chicken udon soup.
