I would rather have paid a few extra dollars than had my lamb chops «well done» (misnomer). The overall experience of our table of 7 was every meal was a little askew — (although we certainly couldn’t complain about the size of dinners — large).
eg the green curry chicken with what you’d expect to be yoghurt on the side. turned out to be sour cream?
It’s a no fuss pub in this separate building — footy is on and the din is loud. The place was packed with families when we went & we were told we’d have to wait a while for our meal — & they were right!
If its $ 12.90 lamb chop/​curry meals you’re after that are tasty although a little odd — & a potato/​pasta type salad bar — pop in. Bookings essential on popular nights — they must be doing something right.

Ah, my favourite pub. I’ve been coming here since I was 19 and at one point was far too well known, to the point where all the staff knew me by name and also Beer Legends number.
The food is always good (Except the garlic bread, it’s been shocking for over 10 years) and they’ve rejigged the menu a few times, which is always refreshing. The chicken caesar burger is always the best thing, but of course they are famous for their schnitzels.
If you’re a beer fan, and face it, you should be, you must sign up to the Beer Legends list. 86 beers from around the world, I’ve done it 11 times. Someone else has done more than that now, but I can claim I was the first person to make 10. The 11^th list took about 3 years to do as I moved too far away!
The long term staff are always friendly, the vibe is always good and the bar flys are always there. I love the Earl!

Seriously the best and biggest chicken schnitty I have ever had! I went the Kilrudd topping (kilpatrick) and its was good! The pub and menus all have humorous inclusions leading to a fun filled night! This review was made after visiting the Liars Bar, I haven’t been into the bistro or other areas!

The Earl of Leicester Hotel is great pub/​hotel that offer bistro and restaurant dining. The center terrace area is a great place to grab a drink or a quick meal. The menu’s are similar for each section but there are a few differences. The restaurant menu has a good selection and you’re sure to find something you fancy.
Expect it to be busy so make a reservation if you want to try the restaurant. The terrace area fills up pretty quickly so get there early. Service is good but slows down after entrees are delivered. Might be a struggle for large groups but having 4 or 5 shouldn’t be too hard.
Parking is in the lot or on the street. Never seen too many kids there so you won’t have to worry about screaming while feasting. Can get somewhat noisy but that’s to be expected in a pub. Well worth a try if you’re in the Parkside area.

Earl of Leicester Hotel is a lovely little pub in the lovely little suburb of Parkside.
The Earl offers both bistro and restaurant dining, so whether you prefer to eat in a more relaxed environment, or the restaurant, which isn’t that different to eating in the bistro.
They also cater for functions for big and small groups. I’ve actually been to a hens party at the Earl, and the food and service were pretty good. The bar seems to be very well stocked with local and imported beers and wines.

The Leicester is a beautiful two story red brick hotel tucked away in the suburb of Parkside.
Hosting a strong beer drinking culture, the Leicester stocks over 150 local and imported beers of diverse characters, and a legends boards upon which ones name is engraved after having tried every one of the 150 beers on offer within a given period.
My understanding is that the quaint name of the «Liars Bar,» is derived from the beer drinking culture of yarn spinning, often to excesses beyond the realms of truth, on subjects such as the size of the crocodile one once caught or the buffalo that one once wrestled.
On the same line, perhaps a yarn or two have been spun about the time time one finished in full the chicken parmigiana ordered from the Leicester. It’s legendary status has incited many to try and few to succeed.

If you are looking for a stylish setting to consume your food, the Earl of Leicester is probably not the best place to dine. In ways it kind of feels like a place where a retirement village might go for a special lunch or dinner.
However looking at the big picture this is a place where you can get good quality, quantity and value for your dollar. Also, you can help yourself to as much salad and bread as you like if you pay for the extra privileges with your meal. On a typical day here you are probably most likely to order a chicken parmigiana or beef schnitzel. As mentioned, generous servings prevail.
The pub area is also not bad, and serves its purpose quite effectively. Most predominately on a Friday night for after work drinks.

There are few pubs left that haven’t received the multi-​million dollar fit-​out funded by pokies. Those yet to receive a magic makeover are often daggy and without any character.
The Leicester is in a class of its own. You’ll find it on a quiet suburb street in Parkside, just off George Street (the city end of Duthy Street), but if you’ve never cut through Leicester Street (thanks to all the dead ends in Parkside), you wouldn’t know it was there.
It reminds me of those wonderful old-​world London pubs; ageless and filled with a strong sense of community.
The front bar is known as Liar’s (I’ve never thought to ask why). The front bar is smallish (read: cosy), and wonderfully welcoming.
Adding to its charm is the dark wood, exposed timber roof and painted plaster walls that don’t travel all the way to the top, allowing the beautiful brick and stone walls to shine. The central bar runs three sides with the overhead filled with magnificent bottled brews. Stools are scattered around and are generally kept warm by the regular crowd from the surrounding streets. They are a friendly bunch and welcome newbies to their home away from home.
The pool table doesn’t have a whole lot of room to get around it, but that doesn’t bother anyone; somehow they make it work. There’s also a jukebox and a few games. The two flat screens show whatever sports are in season.
The bistro, despite having little character, is busy nearly every night of the week. It draws a local crowd looking for a good home cooked meal for around 15 bucks and there are often large groups of families here, with numbers upwards of 12.
There is a more formal restaurant out the back too called Liars Restaurant. I’d guess it seats 100, but I’ve never seen more than a few tables occupied. Given the food comes out of the kitchen, most people seem to accept to mediocre surrounds of the bistro for a meal half the price.
I haven’t been there but hear the private room upstairs is a great location for a party.
