Pie Face

Do you like a good pie? I do. I love a good pie which is why I make my own at home but I have been wondering what all the fuss is about Pie Face and thinking that they better be a nice pie for the price. They aren’t expensive but they do cost a little more than your usual old bakery.
So there I was, standing in my winter clothing feeling a tad pekish and thirsty for a little morning coffee and my train was soon due when I saw Pie Face calling out to me… piieeee… piieeee… eat meeeeee…
Such a selection of pie. Beef and peppercorn it is. I also bought a cappuccino. Both cost about $ 8 together. Now as Pie Face is only a quick scoot from the main ticket barrier at Parramatta train station, you know, the bit that heads down into the bowels of Westfields Parramatta, only a little time was taken and I was up on Platform 2 waiting for a to The Riff in no time.
Service was friendly. Quick, happy, smiles and efficient. Their cappuccino was ok. More like a super latte but that’s most places but it was tasty and the sugar well stirred.
As for the pie, you couldn’t have asked for a better crust. They pastry was perfect. The gravy was tasty and the right amount. And the meat? The meat consisted of real meat, not gristle and other left over parts but real, diced chunks of dead cow. Perfect!

how CUTE is pie face? Even if the products were terrible-​tasting, the staff lazy and inattentive and the store gross, I’d still go because of the CUTENESS of a pie with a FACE!
Luckily, that isn’t the case and I have absolutely no non health-​related reservations about visiting Pie Face. The concept is simple — the face on the top denotes the type of pie that you’re getting. This brilliant marketing ploy isn’t limited to pies — the type of coffee you get is also highlighted by the sleepiness of the face on it. Super sleepy = decaf. HYPERAWAKE = espresso. Brilliant, non?
Aesthetic value aside, Pie Face is rad — the kitsch doesn’t undermine the food; each pie is (apparently) hand made, and while the validity of that claim might be lacking, the pies certainly aren’t. Pie Face has made pies cool — no longer the domain of tradies and late-​night drunks, pies are now firmly in the gourmet category. Both sweet and savoury, Pie Face’s ingredients include tomato chutney, gravy and pecan (not together, obviously). Delish!
