Everyone likes a bit of down and dirty, right? Getting hot and sweaty, bodies everywhere and hearts pumping. Sound like something you’re up for? I’ll meet you at Ambar then, yeah? Ambar embodies everything that is positive about music and clubbing. It’s open ’till the wee hours of the morning, it has a great, diverse program of nights, there’s this crazy awesome community of people who go each week and it pretty much opens its arms to all. Hidden away on the edge of the city, it’s my perfect place, to begin or end a night. After you head downstairs into da club you’re met with this expanse of people and dance floor. You can sit and chill out, hang at the bar or totally lose yourself on the dance floor. There’s no judgement at Ambar, that’s what it’s about. Ambar is what you want it to be. There are three«club» nights that in my opinion will never fail to please; Japan 4, Fresh Produce and Yum Cha. And as what I would call as a bit of a regular at Ambar, I’ve worked out what they’re good at(everything) and but three nights really hit it home. Japan 4 is my favourite ongoing Ambar night. Each Saturday rincers, party girls, hipsters and everyone in between flock down to Pier St car park to get involved in the infamous night that is Japan 4. Guests are treated to a whirlwind of bass and beats from local heroes such as Micah, Philly Blunt and DNGRFLD and if we’re lucky, sometimes they’ll throw in special guests just to add something a little bit extra to the night. Japan 4 is bass. Big, dirty, stinking bass. It hits you like a brick and it’s freaking awesome. Fresh Produce is all about Perth’s new and upcoming DJs. It’s a great way to experience some new beats and support the local scene. It brings the beats and once a month the freshest guys spin from beginning to end, giving everyone a sweet taste of what they’ve got. Yum Cha is one of Ambar’s newest endeavours and it’s the best opportunity to truly experience being off chopsticks. China takes over and there’s a sea of yum cha filled trap villains covering the floor. January’s treat is an allstar, ladies line up that I’m pretty sure will kick ass. Ambar is part of the Boomtick family which includes Villa, Flyrite and Parker. Each venue has its own niche and really nails it each time. For me, going out and partying is all about the bass. To quote a famous poet; «I’m a bassline junkie». All I want is to walk into a club and be hit with a wall of bass and freaking awesome beats. Ambar delivers. Nuff said.

Haha ambar :’) That underground place that smells of old moist socks! Yes, I know ambar! But it’s not always a bad place to be, just depends on what event they’re holding and the people you’re with! Their speakers shake the floor and the carpet areas create the illusion that you’re not stepping on a sticky as hell floor. I’ve been a few times and only once did I not enjoy it — however i was borderline sober that time so… They decline entry to those wearing printed tops like unit and skin and all them brands, so heads up to those who actually wear that attire out. I can’t say much on prices of drinks because I don’t really remember… But they’re open until 5am and that’s yeyeah for Perth city!

This is a bar that has done very well in lists of the best clubs in the world, as voted by DJ’s. That may mystify you at first glance when you come down here; the décor is not particularly amazing and the lighting setup is only kind of OK. What you will notice is the super-fine sound system and fantastic vibe — this is a club that people come to for the music. Like Sugar in Adelaide, this is the kind of joint that really shapes itself around its’ music policy. The truth is, when you’ve got a great crowd in a room, a decent bar and great tunes, nobody gives a fuck about what the place looks like. Currently Ambar is best known for its’ electro and dubstep nights, but it has always been great at keeping up with changing dance music trends. I came to some killer breaks nights here back when breakbeat was the big sound in Perth and every so often stumble into a classic house gig. Alongside the underrated dancefloors at Geisha and Shape, this is one of Perth’s best clubs. Check street press to see what they have coming out, pick a good night and make a big one out of it, you won’t regret it*. *: Until the comedown.

I have this awful memory sitting at Ambar on my own at 4 o’clock in the morning waiting for a friend to stop sucking face with some guy on the dance floor. It’s a nasty haze of mirrors, flashing lights, and dub-step music. I remember thinking that people were like robots here, it felt completely devoid of humanity. I haven’t been back since.

Ambar is consistently ranked as one of the best dance venues in the state and in Australia despite its dingy setting, dodgy ambiance and rank toilets. But boy is the music sick. I’ve never heard a bad DJ set there and the crowd is always into it. Like the other reviews said, drunken is a necessity, but when you are heading to Ambar at 3am when everything else is closed, safe to say you are intoxicated in one way or another. The venue itself can be a bit claustrophobic with its minimal space and low roof especially when facing some loose dance moves from fellow patrons. The cover is is a bit steep, but worth it for those tunes.

I lurveeeeee Ambar, absolutely love it. But from reading the other reviews, I can understand how this place isn’t for everyone. Yes, you do have to be pretty wasted to have fun. Yes, you need plenty of money to keep you wasted until 5am. Yes, you need to be into some heavy electro music to be able to dance for hours. And yes, you should preferably be in flat shoes. I really like it, and if I’m pretty sure there’s a pool table inside?! Is there? Maybe I dreamt it…

Put simply, Ambar is where you go if: a) It’s 5am, this is Perth and everywhere else is closed. b) Have a keen interest in heavy drum and bass and dub-step music c) You’re so wasted you don’t care where you are, all you want is somewhere that is dark and there is music and people I do not recommend this place to those if: a) It’s 5am and it’s waaaay past your bedtime b) You hate heavy drum and bass and dub-step music c) You are sober.

This venue is for people who don’t want to quit partying at 2am and head home. The crowd is off their face dancing to mostly drum and bass, breaks or house, sometimes with the records being spun by international djs. I actually like the grimy venue, it reminds me of a lot of bars in Soho in London, it is more the music and clientele I wasn’t in to. Not somewhere I would ever want to go again.

For a girlfriends 18th, a group of us headed underground, down a seedy lane way to Ambar Nightclub, where all I could hear was the sweet sound of drum and bass as I arrived, I knew from here on I was set for a good night. I was a bit thrown back by the $ 20 dollar entry fee and must admit that I had my fingers crossed that I was not going to be turned off, especially after waiting in the queue. The seductive lighting and sleek design made this nightclub appear a little sassier than others and not quite so grubby. I had a fabulous night, however the bar staff were not very friendly and I think it really makes it a good time when even the employee’s appear to be enjoying themselves even while they are working. There was also problems with the ATM which made the night a little difficult, however I will blame this on the particular night that I went as I feel Ambar nightclub has great potential.
