The food here is absolutely divine! They pack a lot of flavour into their gluten free savoury muffins(and they’re so fluffy and tasty you’d never know they were gluten free) and the paninis and sandwiches also hit the spot. I think I might be developing an addiction to some of their smoothies too. Green Boost(Kale, Avocado, Almond) doesn’t sound too appealing, but it is incredibly moorish! Only thing letting Flour Drum down is the coffee. As a lover of strong(double shot) flatwhites, I am frequently disappointed. Though perhaps I am just too picky(entirely possible) as my colleague rates it highly.

Flour drum. You make me want to forget to bring my lunch to work. Baguettes crammed with high quality fillings, the best priced salads in the city, and an array of sweets that cause me to disregard my weightloss goals. Soup in the winter is a winner and coffee/juices never disappoint. I’m a regular here for a reason!

Friday morning coffee from here this week. Dropped in for my weekly long black on Friday and this little place was packed, the set out is good, and I was served quickly and my coffee from here was hot! $ 3.80 for a long black in Perth CBD is pretty good when I am used to paying more then that. Good quality and tasty coffee. Service was excellent. I also notice that they have a great selection of breakfast bread in their cabinet. This place is tucked away inside the walk from the Esplanade Train Station to St Georges Terrace and is definitely worth swinging by for a cheap morning coffee.

I cannot begin to describe how happy I am that this little gem of a café is right on the doorstep of my office building. When it first opened I had my doubts as it just seemed too good to be true. Around the corner is a tired little Chinese/Japanese food court, MYO and Croissant Express where most time-poor office workers scurry to get their noon feed. Deborah and the team at Flour Drum serve up out-of-this-world pastries, muffins, brioches, croque monsieurs, sandwiches, baguettes, pies, salads and soups. Everything is homemade and just wonderful. The moment I step in I feel a wave of calm thanks to the music, the lighting, the décor, the friendly staff greeting me and the promise of good home cooked food. The prices are very reasonable(at other nearby lunch options Louve, Castro and the food court at Brookfield Place you would be extremely lucky to walk out with change from $ 10 or even $ 15). We use Flour Drum for catering as well and everyone always raves about the food. Deborah is a queen of innovative cooking and pairs together at times unusual ingredients(think sausage in tomato soup or celery in a turkey sandwich) but she pulls it off with style and my tummy is always very happy!

The Flour Drum is a cute little café which has recently opened on the ground floor of the Quayside building on Mill Street. I have been there a couple of times, and I have to submit a mixed review. The café itself is nice — there’s a small seating area, the music is quiet jazzy/house, and the lighting is not overly harsh which tends to be a failing of Perth eateries. Later in the day you can sit in the sunny terrace area to eat, which is a nice bonus. There is an extensive range of hand made pastries, sandwiches and snacks, which are delicious, and they offer a variety of teas and juices as well as coffee. The staff are friendly and attentive, my main complaint is the time it takes to get a coffee — I have been in twice in the morning, and while it never seems overly crowded, it took over ten minutes to get a plain latte both times, and on both occasions it was really more of a large flat white coffee, and tasted a little singed. I tend to stop in on my way to work, and I don’t really have the time to hang around for ages… last time I walked in at 8:13, ordered a coffee and a croissant(untoasted) and did not end getting the coffee until 8:27 — luckily I work across the street! I would go for lunch, the menu looks nice, and the pastries I’ve tried have been really good, but I would leave plenty of time to get there and back. I’m going to give three stars because I know there are always teething problems with a new business, and if they get the barista sorted out I would go to four. So if you’ve got a long lunch or some spare time, it would be worth a visit.
