Public Trustee

My parents used the Public Trustee when they prepared their wills, and my mother when she updated her will after my father had passed away. They were efficient in this regard. Once my mother passed away, I have found it extremely difficult to communicate with the officer handling the estate. Emails have gone unanswered, and calls have not been returned. Very disappointed in service provided.

After 200+ reviews, this might be my first totally serious review on Unilocal.So I will try to keep it short.
Unilocalers, you need to make a will. Really, you do.
Currently, the laws that are referred to if you die without a will were written in 1903 and seriously reflect the thinking of those times. That is, they are remarkably out of date with what you might wish to happen with your estate after you die. A bunch of people have a right to take a piece of you, even after you are dead, if you don’t have a will. That includes former partner/​s, de facto partner/​s, divorced partners, estranged children and parents. This does not include carers or other people in your life you might wish to leave a gift to or provide for. And here’s another tip for free: don’t nominate anyone you love to be your Executor. It’s a $h!+ job. Seriously. Plus, only nominate one person, not more than. Make it someone independent. And here’s the bonus, you can make it the Public Trustee. Sure, they will take a percentage, but for the money they charge, getting them to draw up a will and then manage the estate, minus all the appeals, money-​grabbing and whatnot that could happen, it’s a load off your living mind. Trust me on that score.
So write up a will, review it every couple of years and ensure less hassle within the family after you’ve written your final Unilocal review.
