Taka Barrack St has been around for a very long time and very popular with students, CBD office workers and the backpackers community. The food has always been consistently cooked and we never found any problem with the serving. The large meal at Taka always comes with a bowl of miso soup and most of the meals come under $ 10 price tags. The premise has a lot of seating which gets filled quite quickly especially during peak eating hours(lunch & dinner). The go to meal for us is usually the karaage chicken in large portion, but there are a lot of various meals in the menu that people can choose from. These days Taka also sells some side dishes such as edamame, takoyaki and gyoza. Unlimited flow of hot tea is easily accessible for customers. I think Taka will not have any shortage of customers in the years to come.

Taka, I’m not sure if it’s you or me. But things aren’t the same as they used to be. It was so fun being able to hit you up for lunch with the boys, smashing a big bowl of teriyaki whatever and a can of coke for about what I was earning per hour at the time. But things aren’t the same. Theres no old guy yelling stuff in japanese in the kitchen anymore. The chicken is slimier than it used to be. Don’t get me wrong I can handle a little bit of slime but now you’re just talking the mickey. I dunno. I might still go to your Freo one if theres nothing better going at the time. Maybe i’ll pop in for a little veg tempura snack if i’m in the mood. But i’ll be honest– I think i’m gonna start going elsewhere for my Teriyaki.

Cheap Japanese eats. Décor & service match the low price tag. Taka is not your typical Japanese restaurant as it’s got a very cheap look compared to others but at a $ 10 price tag per meal you won’t complain. Big serves. Everything you’d want on the menu. Big tables. Minus is the self serve sauce table. Having to squeeze past holding a tiny shallow bowl of soy is disastrous.

Looking for a quick bite to eat with children 4,5&6 and decided to stop at Taka. Child 4&5 raves about this place and is frequented by their friends often. I have to say I was more than disappointed. It is super cheap, I will grant you that, but that is about all it has going for it. The décor is non existent. The walls are filthy and peeling paint or scuff marked with countless shoes. The service is poor and uninspiring. The food comes out so fast that it can’t have been cooked properly, which it wasn’t, and the taste is watered down. This is a restaurant for back packers and youth with a tight budget. If you need to be filled up with starch and boiled meat then Taka is the place for you! D-. Taka is delicious! I have been twice in the past month and loved it both times. I’ve gotten the large tempura prawn and veggies both times and it’s only about $ 10. It’s a lot of food as it comes with a bowl of rice and really good miso soup. They also have a huge vat of good, complimentary Japanese tea, which is a nice addition. You order up at the counter and then get your food when your buzzer goes off, and while it is typically crowded the staff does a good job of cleaning tables quickly. Would recommend for anyone looking for good and cheap food in the city!

A quick bite. This establishment has been around for as long as I can remember but for some reason I haven’t popped in until just recently. I opted for the Chicken Karage Ramen while Susan chose the fresh chicken Udon. My Ramen was okay but I have definitely had better for a similar price point. My chicken was cooked well though and was still nice and crispy on the outside. Susan found the chicken udon to be satisfactory but not outstanding. The turn around time is very quick and there is free Japanese tea provided on site. If I was to describe this place in a few words it would be a Japanese version of Chiliz.

Come hungry, leave happy without losing an arm and a leg. Food is fresh and tasty, and there’s free tea. We ordered a bit too much to be honest but it’s so rare to find an affordable place these days. My katsu don was simple but great. The ‘special’(announced on cashier desk) was great too, with a lovely broth; pretty mild but there’s sauces and spices on the table by the tea if you need them. Our gyoza was a bit too crunchy and a bit bland. Overall however this place is a winner in our books.

Very very cheap Japanese cuisine and very fast service as well. No wonder this restaurant is so popular to everyone. This is an excellent place to eat out when you don’t have that much on you!!!

Fresh, fast and cheap — who can complain about that? A staple of the Perth office and student crowd, taka never fails to deliver on it’s simple but delicious menu. Get in early to get a table, and don’t linger!

Great place to come with a large group of hungry friends. This place is like a food hall as it sure gets busy and a sign that their food gathers a loyal following. Very reasonable and tasty morsels put these guys way up there.

If you want to eat some decent Japanese food at a great value then I would recommend Taka! I always enjoyed coming here for a quick yet affordable meal. The peak hour lunch time during the weekdays is very busy so do keep that in mind. Quality of the meals is fairly standard for Japanese food. Everything I tried was at least decent and have no complaints about the food here. Based on the amount of traffic this restaurant seems to get they are doing well.

If you want peace and quiet — don’t ever go to Taka! It is always busy because the food is decent at an amazing price! Typically I always get a mixed sushi to share with some Chicken Teriyaki. If you want to have a more hearty indulgent meal give the katsu don a go.

Working close to Taka means this is my go-to place for lunch. I try to go at 12.20 or 12.40 as they lunch time rush has generally passed which means I get my meal quickly. I have a lot of different meals including Katsu Don, Fresh Udon Chicken, Chicken Curry, Tuna Don, Salmon Don. With such variety, I know I can always grab something different. The Miso is also nice. Great food for a low price.

Cheap and fresh sushi in the heart of town makes for an ideal lunch when you’re on the run(not from the po-po, just generally rushing around town). The restaurant itself is very basic, almost like a food hall. They sell all the Japanese favourites, so make sure you get in early if you want to eat in, as all the tables go pretty quickly at lunchtime. Cash only!
