Oh my., a gin lovers heaven with a selection of world gins to leave a grown up feeling like a kid in a lolly shop who has been invited to select anything they want. From the mainstream quality gins to the obscure artisans — the equivalent of 3 pages to tantalise. The 5 stars are for the gin menu.

Pub crawl location.(! Drunk post). Yep. Serves drinks. Talent tonight is of the 30−50range mostly women and mostly guys with beards. Well done. Women remain amazingly single. Shave! For goodness sake! Beards are NOT attractive. But for the sake of hip’ness clearly this bar is rocking if it’s attracting guys with beards and chicks in tight skirts.

On our previous visit to the Flour Factory a few months ago we had one of our best lunches of the year — a lunch special that had excellent choices, brilliant cooking and outstanding presentation. So we went along last week full of expectation — unfortunately the menu has changed markedly since then and now focusses on hotdogs, pizzas and charcuterie with a couple of other dishes there for good measure — all good things no doubt, but not what we were looking for on the day. Having said that the Flour Factory is one of the most attractive bars around — heavy jarrah tables and a stunning bar, its fascia made of jarrah offcuts, comfortable chairs, striking hanging copper domed light fittings, it really has a great look and feel, with a large window adorned with the name peeping out over Queen Street. Anyway as we were there a drink was called for — the wine list at Flour Factory is small but thoughtfully put together with a good range of prices, varieties and regions represented. We settled on a glass of Not Your Grandma’s Riesling for me, and Hentley Farm Blanc de Noir for Lady FWO. The Riesling from Chaffey Brothers in the Eden Valley has lifted aromas of lemons, limes and citrus blossom, while the palate has a touch of mid palate sweetness, balanced by good acid and intense flavours of crunchy green apple, limes and lemons. The Barossa sparkling made predominantly from Pinot Noir is pale pink, with a lifted bouquet of strawberries; it has fine and persistent bead, creamy mousse and flavours of cherries, strawberries and red apples. Very pleasant drinking. Another little highlight or quirk of the Flour Factory is the Chocolate Wheel behind the bar — if you are unsure of which of the many gins on offer to sample, the wheel will be spun and fortune will determine that which you have. Spin for your gin, indeed. Despite the little disappointment over the food on offer — we have had the hot dogs before and they are good and the pizzas likewise present well, but the food we had last time was sublime, just a pity it isn’t there any longer — Flour Factory is worth a visit for sure — quick and easy fare, excellent drinks choices, wonderful set up and atmosphere, and is definitely recommended.

Fantastic food and great cocktails! We were there for a pre-show dinner and ordered the roast chicken. It was so moist and delicious! We orders the duck fat potatoes as a side and they were decadent and amazing!

Mm… Gin! I can be pretty indecisive, I know this. Sometimes I don’t know what drink I want. Enter the gin wheel. Spin it and it picks for you. Genius! I am also a fan of the meats, and the cheeses and FF do that super well too. Service? Tick. Pizza? Tick. Great West Winds Southside? Tick! The way they’ve designed the venue is lovely, keeping all of the open spaces that Venn has previously but utilising upstairs as The Sherry. It’s definitely one to try, whether it’s a quick drink or a looooong lunch.

I think the amount of time that you visit a restaurant can be a testimony of how much you really like it, just like how we visited The Flour Factory(TFF) twice within the span of one month. Walking into the TFF, we couldn’t believe that the place used to be a 100 year old flour mill. I like the trendy interior of TFF such as their industrial lighting over the amazing gin bar, wooden tables, flour bags on the gin shelves, comfortable couch and chairs as well as the outdoor area that they have. TFF has their in-house flour mill and they make their own bread. Our first visit was during a weekday where we were given two glasses of complimentary TFF Vermouth on top of the Aperol Spritz that I ordered. On my second visit, Martin and I decided to try the spin the gin wheel which was a really fun activity. The idea is that a customer pays $ 10 for the bartender to spin the wheel. Each number on the wheel corresponds to a different type of gin and you might get a really good one. Martin chose the Hayman’s Old Tom Gin with the orange garnish where I took the Hendrik’s that came with the cucumber garnish. Below are some food that we tried at TFF: DUCKFATPOTATOES Martin ordered the crispy duck fat potatoes to be shared among us and it was really tasty. Just like what the menu said, the potato had crispy skin and very yummy when dipped into the bacon mayo sauce. The size of the cut was really easy to eat and it didn’t take long for Keegan, Martin, Andrew and I to finish one serving. I can picture a couple duck fat potatoes being ordered and shared around in a large groups. CHIHUAHUAHOTDOG Hubby ordered a hot dog to be shared and he was surprised when it didn’t come with any sausage in it. I told him that the menu clearly said three beans with tortilla and jalapeño, plus the menu also has ‘v’(vegetarian) on it. I like this hot dog because I love my beans and jalapeño but some people might find this too ‘light’ as a gourmet hot dog. Hubby still couldn’t come to terms with it and on our second visit there were two guys at the table next to us who ordered the Chihuahua hot dog. Hubby and I just laughed when one of the guys said, «Where’s the sausage?». SHEEPDOG On our second visit, Hubby learned his lesson and decided to order the hot dog of the day called Sheepdog, which consists of meaty lamb sausage, honey yoghurt, cumin, pickled carrots and coriander. The house-made bun was quite soft and easy to eat together with the lamb. The sausage is quite meaty and can definitely be quite filling when eaten with the bun and fillings(we were told a number of people actually chose to not eat the bun). The amount of filling in the hot dog was a little scarce since this was a gourmet hot dog. However Hubby wasn’t complaining it and was satisfied. SATAYCHICKENPIZZA One of the reason we came back to TFF for the second time was for this very delicious pizza. It had roasted peanuts, grilled capsicum, red onion, mozzarella and chives and TFF was quite generous with the amount of tender chicken on the pizza. Unfortunately on our second visit, TFF was sold out of this beautiful pizza and we found out from our waiter that we could pre-order everything in the menu a week before our booking. I was so jealous of the table behind us that pre-ordered the pizza in advance. We’d take the satay chicken anytime especially when compared with Rucola. RUCOLAPIZZA Since we couldn’t get our hand on the satay chicken, we ordered the Rucola Pizza. Rucola Pizza came with a few slices of prosciutto di san danielle which was a bit sweeter than the normal prosciutto and produced only in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. This prosciutto was made from the pigs’ meat who were born and bred in Italy. The rucola also had shaved parmesan, tomato and rocket on it. Knowing the history of the prosciutto only makes me want to see more slices of it on the pizza although this might increase the price… WAGYUROSTBIFF One of the highlights of our dinner orders was the premium Rangers Valley’s Wagyu Rostbiff cooked in medium rare. We looked at the pinkish meat in awe especially because it was very well cooked. Each bite didn’t disappoint as well since the meat was so tender that it almost dissolved in the mouth. If you like your beef, I’d definitely recommend this dish. TFF is located at a popular area and it’s advisable to book the premise for dinner especially during the weekend. The booking can easily be done through email to or a phone call to 94851711. Parking is easily available through Wilson parking at Queens Complex and at the moment they have a special of $ 5 if you ‘book-a-bay’ through the Wilson Parking Website. TFF is a fantastic option to enjoy great food with a wide selection of drinks on offer, with great ambience fitting for a fun night out.

Tried this once before for dinner and absolutely loved it. Favourite dish is the ranger’s valley grain fed beef wagyu«rostbiff». Great presentation and cooked perfectly in medium rare(my liking). Tried the vegetarian hot dog, wasn’t my cup of tea but might be for others. Tried the satay chicken pizza and really enjoyed it. What I enjoyed from it was that the chicken had a satay flavour rather than the«standard» cut chicken. Definitely worth a try to share in a group. Great atmosphere, good service, delicious food. Give The Flour Factory a go if you haven’t already.

The Flour Factory 5pm It’s not often that the Blonde and I get to meet in town, so on the way home from an errand in Beaufort Street I pinged her at work to see if she was up for a beverage in the CBD. Duh! So with her in a drop dead frock and me in work shorts we headed for King Street to see if Varnish was open. But as we passed Raine Square she noticed the lights on at The Flour Factory and our fate was sealed. I had heard of the venue but never been. Pretty glad that I now have. It’s the vibe of a Mrs Brown with the edginess of Enrique’s. Well laid out room with great seating options, a big uppity bar that harks of the Bakery(sob) and a big focus on Gin, as you do now. And there’s live entertainment in the window seats, more about that later. So we flopped in the comfy leather and leafed through the extensive liquid offerings. Mixed local and OS wines, beers and, of course, Gin. Always up for a Spanish white we decided on the Colagon Verdejo $ 9.5. Superb drop and great value. As we sipped and settled in with the light food menu we watched the travails of peeps trying, and largely failing to drive in and out of, usually by reversing, the Wilson car park ramp outside the window. If it wasn’t so dangerous it would be very Benny Hill funny. The menu was actually quite good, offering enough to certainly return for another dig. Having missed lunch I decided on the Chicago hotdog $ 15, whilst herself went for the Zucchini and Squash(gf) $ 18. The place was largely empty so we checked out the staff. Not too many smiles or little patron communication happening, maybe they all had big weekends. Shall see on the next visit The food was quick to appear and was great. The Zucchini and squash was a superb choice, perfectly cooked, flower and all, and presented. This was first foray into hotdog land at this level and it was very good, dry bun but the Vienna snag was flavoured by a green onion relish, white onion and a spicy house mustard with a little kick. Great beer food really. All in all it was a great intro to this place and we will happily return to see if the staff are more cheery.

The Flour Factory had a relaunch on Tuesday Night 14th July 2015 to a packed bar of over 150 guests. The numbers in the crowd proved how high the demand was for unique inner city bar. The Flour Factory is a fascinating building. I had not been to the venue for about 4 years when it was originally Venn bar. I loved Venn it was the perfect inner city spot to chill out on a Friday after work. However, The Flour Factory is so much more. The bright lights of the window signs are very enticing and are an excellent addition to this venue’s décor. Queen Street is lit up at night by the bright sign that makes the street and the venue all the more inviting. The venue has several different spaces, which is something that really added to the atmosphere of this space. You can sit down near the kitchen in all its warmth and enjoy a quiet table while enjoying one of the artisan dishes, or you can perch yourself near the bar to enjoy a beautiful glass of the delightful vermouth. There is also an upstairs bar called the Sherry which I haven’t had the chance to enjoy just yet but I have a feeling its going to become my Friday haunt… There is so much effort placed into this venue that it is hard to leave without being exceptionally impressed by the detail that has gone into every last crevice. It is also a place of interesting historic merit. It is ‘An inner city public house across three floors of a historic 100-year-old flourmill’. The eclectic venue fuses together a NYC deli with Spanish bodega cocktail bar. The food has an artistic flair and the drinks have very fine detail.

Have wanted to try this place for awhile and after reading/hearing good things and bad things I decided that we should just try it out for ourselves. I know that it was recently renovated and I loved the inside interior and décor. I had already sussed out the menu before we had arrived so we ordered the pork jowl which was $ 50 and the wagyu which was $ 30. Have to say was a little bit disappointed by the wagyu found it a bit chewy and it just lacked flavour and it wasn’t rested long enough as there was a lot of meat juice on the board. It’s not good when you have to add your own pepper and salt to food at a restaurant. The pork jowl was good but a bit too much for 2 people, it really did melt in the mouth but again the amount of fat in the pork made me feel ill(and I LOVE pork) The real winner of the night was the dessert! Malt panna-cotta with condensed milk and caramelised white chocolate! It even came with salted caramel sauce and ice-cream(wasn’t on the description) by far the best dessert we’ve had in a while I’m glad we chose dessert here instead of going else where. Next time though(will be awhile) might go for the pizzas as the smelt and looked amazing :)

I had been lusting after the charcuterie boards from The Flour Factory for a while, so when I won the Unilocal Happy Hour, it was the first spot off«The List» that I thought to have it at. I didn’t end up having any charcuterie… but that gives me reason to go back! I met Laura D outside and we walked into a buzzing bar around 7:30 on a Friday night. The after work crowd were still going strong, but the staff accommodated us pretty well — it was still easy enough to get to the bar. Laura set us up with pizzas and wine, while my newbie Unilocal crew sorted out spots to sit. The layout is long and fairly narrow — like a cottage block house. There’s lots of glass, wood and leather. Not in a wanky way though, it’s got an inviting warmth about it all. More serious diners down the back, stairs up to a rooftop bar The Sherry(something else I need to check out as it warms up) and drinkers and grazers up the front. We enjoyed Happy Hour so much, we stuck around for a few hours more. The wine selection is a mix of international and local with bottle prices starting at $ 40-$ 45 and going up. By the end of the night, we’d tried 4 different bottles and all were hits. We took photos to remember when we next hit a bottle-o! The pizzas are all freshly cooked to order and of the ‘less-is-more’ approach. If it’s on it, it’s because it needs to be there, rather than just a pile of random stuff. very well constructed. The roast vege and the prosciutto were my favourites. We also ordered the Rueben Dog, mistakenly thinking it was a pizza… it was delicious, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you only have a coffee table seat. It’s pretty messy to eat not on a table. It actually would’ve made a crazy good pizza. They should consider it. If the pizzas were a window into their«real» food, I’ll have to try some of the bigger dishes at another time. i did disappointingly try to order some of their sherry fudge just after the kitchen closed. So be warned, food finishes before food here. The crowd here was quite a mixed bunch, all ages from early 20’s upwards. All in all, we had a great night here and would definitely head back. Despite the cancer threat, I need to try their cured meats!

Nice space, large and open. However over $ 14 for a ginger beer, $ 10 for a stubbie and $ 9.50 for not even a standard glass of red wine is utterly ridiculous. Oh and the beer and wine were not even top quality. Needless to say wont be coming back with those prices.

Today we went back to The Flour Factory for lunch. I had to coax my workmate Andrew back, as last time he found the mustard on his hot dog way too spicy, and I can understand that(although I thought it was spot on!). The newly refurbished bar area is very impressive, as is the new menu. Heading for the«pizzas and dogs» section, Andrew chose the«Porker» pizza($ 24) with bourbon bbq sauce, bacon, pulled pork shoulder & meatballs. This was a great pizza with a perfect crust and quality ingredients — you could really taste the bourbon in the sauce! I chose the«British Bulldog» hot dog($ 15) with pork, apple & sage sausage, apple slaw, sharp cheddar and cider mustard. I really enjoyed this, the creamy slaw and cheddar worked really well together. The bread had the perfect amount of «crunch», too. I also ordered the«spice up your slice» selection of spicy condiments($ 4), which came with hot chilli sauce, jalapenos, and something I couldn’t quite identify but could eat all day long by the spoonful. It was like a chunky«dip» for want of a better word — I’m guessing chorizo based — and was beautifully spicy. We arrived right on 12 noon and were finished by 12:30 — fantastic service, especially considering we ordered a pizza! Definitely one of the best lunches we’ve had in the city recently, and great value for money too.

Wow, if you haven’t been or thought of going, DO! I was truly blown away. I didn’t expect much food wise, as I thought of the place as more of a meat and pizza place. Which it is, but the bread is made by them, the meat is cured on site and the pizzas looks amazing. We went for our 3 year anniversary dinner and our waiter made us feel like we dining at home, he was so nice and attentive. Being meat lovers we shared a entrée platter with cured meats, a lamb platter, roast potatoes and the most amazing dish was the Jerusalem artichokes. Each dish was cooked to perfection, the potatoes were crispy, the lamb tender and the sauce it came with was fantastic. I cant wait to go back. Not just for food or the never ending Gin menu(I love Gin) but also the amazing earl grey tea pannacotta. We shared this dessert and felt like lady and the tramp in our little booth. I almost didn’t want to write a review as I was afraid it would get so busy here that I would no longer be able to get a last minute booking. The Flour Factory, has it absolutely going on, I want to sit, drink and eat here all day!

I’d heard very mixed reviews about this place so decided to check it out for a mid week dinner with my hubby. It was a cold rainy night but was nice and warm as soon as we walked inside. The bar area was very busy and had a nice atmosphere to it. We were quickly shown to our reserved table in the lower dining area which to be honest was a bit cramped up against a brick wall, we asked to move but all the other tables were also booked. Our waiter was friendly and helpful with the menu, he helped us with our choice of wine and was happy to provide a couple of tastings which was helpful. After a bit of deliberation we ordered the lamb rump, pork tenderloin and the grilled cabbage with white wine cream, sausage, bacon and potatoes. All the dishes came out together with a selection of homemade sauces, really good portion sizes and nicely presented on planks. We were apprehensive in ordering the lamb as we like our meat cooked medium rare but more on the rare side, the waiter assured us that this is how it comes and he was right, it was perfectly cooked, nice and chargrilled on the outside and beautifully pink in the middle. The pork was also just pink enough to be juicy and tender and the grilled cabbage was awesome. All up we had a really nice meal and are looking forward to returning(although next time I will request a different table) Also looking forward to visiting in the warmer months when the upstairs bar is open.

The Flour Factory has recently been expanded and now takes over what was once the shop front of Venn Bar and Gallery. Featuring beautiful wood tables, and a long wood bar(apparently they purchased a couple of trees and used these to fit out the bar), the front bar section is now open and inviting. Being a new addition to Andy Freeman’s(Luxe Bar, Varnish on King) portfolio of Perth bars, the drinks menu features quality spirits and cocktails. Look out for the quirky gin wheel at the back of the bar where you can«Spin for your gin», and have the lucky chance of getting one of 20 gins which the bartender will select the appropriate garnish and tonic water to match. The food menu is meat and dude food focused. You can choose from roasted meats and a premium charcuterie selection. For me, I find the menu quite heavy in its flavours and a little uninspiring. If you like meat and carbs(think hot dogs, pizzas, charcuterie boards, potatoes etc) then this is your place. The place gets busy on Friday nights so the wait for drinks service at the bar can be long. If you can be patient for your drinks or be one of the fortunate ones to reserve a table(full table service is offered) then it’s a pumping place to be on a Friday after work.

A birthday celebration calls for special venue so we booked The Flour Factory for a Saturday dinner for six. When I walked in they were playing ‘I Was Made for Loving You’ by Kiss, cementing this place as my new favourite. Housed within a 100-year-old building, it’s a handsome space with a bar built upon wooden blocks and bare bulbs, lots of bench tables and a great wide window to gaze out of. The place was buzzing — just as well we’d booked. The Flour Factory houses their own bakery and butchery so we were expecting exciting things. We unanimously voted for the chicken liver parfait with red wine and quince($ 18) and OMG, yum! Served with a brioche bun this was the best parfait I’ve had in a long time. We had to try the ndjua($ 10), a spicy Italian pork spread served with sourdough. It was also delicious and very spicy. There were some were very tempting items on the butchery page but we went straight to the hot dogs, $ 15 each. The sheepdog was a beautifully flavoured lamb sausage with pickled carrot, coriander, cumin & honey yoghurt in a tasty bun($ 15). It was quite possibly the most amazing hot dog I’ve ever had the pleasure of trying to wrap my mouth around. My comrades ordered the British bulldog made from pork, apple and sage sausage, apple slaw, sharp cheddar, cider mustard($ 15) and the chihuahua with Mexican 3 bean chilli, jalapeño, tortilla chips. They were equally silent as we all ate in awe of the humble dog given new status. I should also mention our waiter who was fantastic, fun and friendly even though he was slightly run off his feet. TFF has a great vibe, music, décor, food and charming staff too.

Tried FF for the first time last night, a Friday. We risked the ‘it’s new and trendy’ crowds to check it out while on a cool-Bars-only pub crawl. Firstly, it definitely makes a big first impression, a lovely big open space on a level above the road. Lots of cement steel and glass but lovely soft lighting and fixtures. Also and lots of seating options that were packed full. However we thought we were in luck when we made for a newly vacated table down near the food… We got told we could not sit there unless we had a booking or intended to eat. As it was 10pm I asked if it was booked as we may eat but we’d first like a drink and then see what we feel like. We got answer ‘it’s not booked, but you can’t sit there unless you’re definitely going to eat’. I understand the reasoning but inflexible ‘rules’ like this and their poor delivery made for a bad impression. We made it to the bar and tried one drink before deciding to head somewhere else. I’ll give it another go when the buzz dies off and hopefully it finds its groove. And I will make a booking just to be sure.

I was taken aback by how the simple hot dog can be so much more. We sampled two mini hot dogs, The Choripan featuring house made chorizo, chimmichurri and crispy onions and The Brat, a bratwurst sausage with homemade sauerkraut and dill pickle. I couldn’t choose which one I enjoyed more. The mini rolls were soft and fresh and enveloped the rich, tasty sausages. The chorizo was slightly spicy and worked beautifully with the chimmichurri while the bratwurst packed a punch and left me wanting more. I will never look at a hot dog the same way again!

Tried out this quirky place for morning tea. This warehouse chic café was well set out and had many delightful treats on offer. All looking fresh and delicious. Due my lactose intolerance I’m always in the hunt for a good soy mocha. TFF achieved this. Tasted great and went down a treat with banana bread and later a Madeline. Close to my work and affordable, I’ll be coming back here again

The Flour Factory set on Queen street in the city is a tribute to the building’s humble beginnings as a flour mill in the 1900’s. It includes a bakery and butchery. Just entering this place felt magical like I stepped into a bakery back in the 1900’s. There were props such as a barrel and a massive flour bag which was really cool. I came here in the evening to catch up with friends and to grab a bite to eat. Their dishes are inspired from their in-house butchery charceuterie and amazing hotdogs! The waiters explained everything from their concept to the wine list and their recommendations. We shared a bit of everything as all sounded very interesting and we were eager to try as much as we could haha! Ended up getting to share from the dogs Brat (The Flour Factory Bratwurst, homemade Sauerkraut, dill pickle) and the Choripan(The Flour Factory Chorizo, chimmichurri, crispy onions) the hotdogs were amazing! So delicious and was easy to share as they cut them for us. We also had to share: Chicken Liver Parfait, rhubarb and«peanut butter» and from the CHARCUTERIE and CHEESE part of the menu we did try a few meats/cheese which were all delicious but I must admit I can’t remember which ones we got as we ordered a few :) For desserts they rustled up a special treat, I honestly can’t remember what we had but I do remember that it was to die for and we ate it all up! The drinks menu was amazing too such variety and lovely wines from different regions and countries which perfectly matched the food we had. Would highly recommend people to head to this place it’s different, the menu is intriguing and the atmosphere is relaxed and happy. This place is a great place to meet for a drink and a bite. Also opened until midnight 6 nights of the week :) Oh PS. See pictures for the food we had :)

And we’ve only just begun… The Flour Factory is the old Venn. Nothing seems to have changed with the interior at all, but now instead of a café it’s a bakery(mostly in the morning) and a bar serving gourmet hotdogs and cheese and charcuterie platters in the afternoon and evening. The Venn shop is now Kate & Abel(from MANY6160) selling their beautiful hats and some other cute pieces. The gallery is still open upstairs. Word on the street is that they will gut the whole venue and start from scratch soonish, with the seating area expanding to where the Kate & Abel shop currently resides. I visited for dinner and we got a range of cheese, cured meats and bread. We spent about $ 60 for two people and were satisfied enough to not need dinner that night. I wasn’t drinking the night I visited, but the wine list looked interesting with a focus on fortified wine. Looking forward to going back and working my way through the list, as well as getting into some of the baked goods one morning. I hear that their ‘crack pie’ lives up to its addictive name.

Brand new name and brand new game! With Andy Freeman at the helm, The Flour Factory has opened with a bang! It is an apt name for a building which was once an old flour mill. It is fitting that the sweet and savoury treats are home baked sourcing the finest ingredients. On my first visit, I was blown away by the amazing treats on offer. The display was so visually appealing, I literally wanted to try one of everything! I managed to content myself with a decadent Valrhona chocolate and raspberry brownie and a smooth macchiato! However on my way out, I decided I needed to take home some goodies to share. The blueberry and lemon cream cheese macarons were a crowd pleaser! The macarons were light and crisp, the fresh blueberries bursting with flavour and the slight tartness of the lemon cream cheese balanced out the sweetness. We also enjoyed the fresh prosciutto and creamy brie rolls — you have to try one to believe how good they are! There is a butcher on hand so the charcuterie is amazing! On my next visit I intend to indulge in a sharing platter. The cheese and the meat platters are served with pickles and bread. The wine list is comprehensive and in addition there are vermouths, sherries and madeiras on offer. I was so impressed by the staff, they are friendly, efficient, subtle and witty. They seem to genuinely care about their customers, which is lovely and very much appreciated. The venue is brilliant, you can choose to sit downstairs or upstairs, both are great. The upstairs area is lovely, fresh air and pretty plants making it a great option. I can see The Flour Factory quickly becoming my favourite haunt in the city as thanks to a constantly changing menu it will always offer a fresh and unique dining experience!
