The state library shop is a bookshop, gallery and post ofice (without postal services) under one (open aired) roof.
Found just inside the doors of the state library is a miniature observatory (which looks like an ant farm from the first floor) lined with books. Drawn to the bargain rack outside selling literary gold for $ 1, initially I thought that this was the librarys’ «waste management» department to store and hopefully sell old and damaged material, but when I got closer I could see that it was so much more. The outside display does the shop no justice.
This shop is a collection of new and great literature, a gallery of aboriginal art works and historical recollections, a selection of unique and inspiring gifts (including themed magnets, photography journals, dvds) and dainty stationary all of which encompass the pride of perth and the west coast (without being Offensive, Touristy or Tacky!) I smiled to myself when I discovered a box of unmarked white (dust inspecting?) gloves.
Definitely worth a gander if you want to find the pride of perth and its’ peple in book form.
