Bamboo is a dumpling restaurant on Darlinghurst Road in Potts Point, it’s a really nice place to sit outside as it is kind of round the corner from the main action of Potts Point. It has a really trendy feel and is relaxed and comfortable. If you go there you will be so glad you read this, as you must go for the desserts. I go there just for dessert. The main meals are good too and they serve a good Peking Duck(not traditional version though. But they have what all the other dumpling places need: Dessert Dumplings! They have the most amazing chocolate dumplings, ice cream dumplings and they also have Chocolate and caramel spring rolls. Just picture them! So forget about dinner, go to bamboo and just have all three desserts and then have them all again, you won’t regret it.

So when you call yourself the dumpling bar your dumplings should be nothing less than outstanding. Right? They shouldn’t be undercooked and come from seemingly grumpy staff. Walking through the Potts Point alleyway there was a number of cafes and places to eat. The idea of fresh mushroom gow gee and pork & chive dumplings sounded like a great snack. My partner and I were going to order takeaway but decided to sit and have a quick bite to eat. The man who took our order looked a little unhappy that we changed our mind and decided to sit down(I mean the order hadn’t even been cooked yet). We found out that he was just an unhappy man and that his attitude wasn’t just to us. We sat to a nice couple who got their order before us. We noticed that they ordered the pork & chive dumplings also, but something was wrong. The couple started to pick apart their dumplings and called the waiter over complaining that they were undercooked. The waiter took the dumplings back and was complaining about something. When our order came, we were very cautious about the food. We picked apart our dumplings like the table next to us and found that they were a little undercooked. The mushroom gow gee was ok, but the idea of uncooked pork didn’t sit well with me. The place wasn’t busy and there wasn’t any reason for it coming out before they were done. Disappointed we just left them and went to go get banana bread down the road. I’d say this is a one time issue, but not a good experience for a first impression. I’m sticking to Din Tai Fung.
