As soon as I read about the toasted ice cream sandwich I had to make a brunch trip here. Wilbur’s did not disappointment. The ice cream sandwich is sweet but not so sweet you feel sick. Nice brunch menu. Good portion sizes and value for money. Omelette was equally delicious and good strong well extracted coffee. Though the crema on my long black split oddly there was no bitterness. Will be back to eat my way through the menu

Went to Wilbur’s again for lunch last Sunday — still fantastic. A few things to note about service: –Like the tune they’re playing? The staff will happily tell you the artist and album. They even showed me the playlist! –When it gets cold, they provide blankets Yay :)

Little brother to the infamous Bourke Street Bakery, Wilbur’s Place is safely tucked away in Llankelly Place and was a pleasant discovery in this eclectic laneway. From the Darlinghurst Road /Macleay Street end of the lane you’d pass it by and write it off as an area devoted to the backpacker lifestyle. Stay with me, though, and venture a little further until you’re greeted with the seamless and simple design of Wilbur’s Place. Let the white subway tiled interior take you to a higher level of class on Llankelly Place. The menu looks delicious although I only stopped for a takeaway coffee. My flat white is a much needed caffeine hit first thing in the morning and prepares me for a day of training. It is smooth, rich and there’s nothing I can fault about it.

Wilbur — you had me at ‘Room 10 will re-open mid January’. That’s right, this place conveniently opened its doors right around the January mark, when my other favourite local coffee place ‘Room 10′ was taking a holiday break.(Don’t worry, I still frequent Room 10 too!!) Wilbur’s place has superb coffee, and the staff are absolutely fab. The place, in a general nutshell, completely rocks! I have not tested much of the food menu yet, but the Toasted ice cream sandwich seems to scream my name every time I glance up at the menu as I wait for my Takeaway coffee, so I must try that soon! They do Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and takeaways too. Believe the hype, Wilbur has your back.

It’s not often that I’ll indulge in brisket. Of the nine primal cuts of beef, it’s probably number eleven on my list.(Too much tenderised connective tissue in my book.) It’s purely a textural turnoff as the taste is to die for, let’s be honest. But upon reading that Wilbur is the little brother of Bourke(of Street Bakery fame), I turned upon my better judgement and indulged in the brisket plate with white beans and bread. It was everything a purist brisket-lover could ask for — tender, juicy, moist even in all its sauce-less glory. But as it turns out, I’m just not a brisket fan. I sat thinking about all of the other amazing dishes I could/should have ordered.(I’m looking at you warm porchetta salad with walnuts, apple and fennel.) And just as I was nearing a full-on whinge, wallowing in my beef-ing blunder, the day was saved… by a toasted brioche ice cream sandwich with caramel. Duh. That trumps all. Always. Forever. And suddenly, I considered the afternoon a total win. Still do.

Look I know this is a big call people but seriously Wilbur’s Place; Best Coffee in Sydney. Llankelly Place is going off at the moment with all kinds of joints opening and to be honest I skipped WIlbur’s for a week or two in favor of a few other favorites down here. I’ve been three times and consistently the coffee has been great, the roast is rich, the coffee is strong, haven’t been given a cup with milk as hot as the sun its all been a great experience. Its pissing down with rain today and I am just waiting for them to open to get my Sunday morning cup of Joe(I’m not outside the place in the rain that would be obsessive)
