Eckerslys is one of the biggest arts and crafts suppliers in Australia, their shop ocated on Commercial Road is had to miss with it’s huge hot pink front entrance! They stock everything you need for handicrafts, such as acrylic, watercolour and oil paints and accessories, drawing tools, visual diaries, canvases, pads, graphic design tools, printmaking supplies, folios and presentation materials, reference books, papercraft tools and supplies, kids’ art items as well as paper.
I have used Eckerslys many times especially as a paper merchant, they have lots of different products to choose from and the staff are very helpful and understanding of stressed out uni students trying to meet deadlines. With stores both in Melbourne CBD as well as Prahran, Eckerslys often host events and workshops where you can go and learn things like sculpture art, picture framing and drawing etc. Keep an eye out on their website for class/​workshop timetables and contact info.

Eckerslys is a fantastically well-​stocked design store that offers all that you could possibly need in the way of arts and crafts. First opened in 1965, this place is the hallmark purveyor of art supplies in Melbourne.
Best of all Eckersleys offers a student card for full-​time university and TAFE students. This gives a 10% discount on all full-​priced products. All you need to do is go to your nearest Eckersley’s store with your 2011 Student identification and fill in a form. This is a god send for struggling design students who labour with some extremely expensive materials.

You’ll never guess it with a name like «Eckersley’s Art & Craft» but guess what? They sell art and craft supplies! Huzzah!
With everything from little scrapbooking sticky stars to professional artist portfolios, Eckersley’s is a great place for all the bits and pieces you could possibly need for a project.
To be fair, their prices are probably a touch on the high side and if you were indeed in the industry professionally, I doubt this is the store you’d frequent (surely there are wholesale suppliers of such things?). If you ARE a pro though, and simply need a last minute oil stick or you’re more a hobbyist, and want advice or just a few things, it’s a great place to go.
