Cricketers Arms Hotel

A bit of a shit hole. The front bar is pleasant enough but gets very busy before a game at the MCG. The back bar and beer garden is another story. My advice is to avoid. There are no seats and the clientele is not someone you would want to meet in a dark alley.
A mate got a schnitzel burger and said it was the worst of his life, he felt sick for the rest of the night.
Beer is fresh and is very close to Richmond station. Better to have a beer here after the game and wait for the line at the station to ease off.
Location is pretty much the only thing going for the cricketers arms.

Unless you are a local, you will generally only head to the «Cricketers» before a sporting match at the MCG. Which is EXACTLY what I do!
A hop, skip and a jump from Richmond station, we always indulge in a few brews before the game. A Tip though: If you are claustrophobic, DON’T head there. The beer garden fills up quickly and there aren’t a lot of seats around.
This is a drinkers pub, so don’t expect any gastro pub type food either. A burger and a beer before the game is about the best you can expect.
After the game, its a good respite to have another drink to drown your sorrows or celebrate your win before you head home. Its much better to sink a brew than be stuck in the endless lines at the train station trying to be shoe horned onto a train.
Recommended for the sporting types… not recommended for those who like their space.

If you’re the sporting type, your weekend may begin or end with a few pre/​post game beverages at the Cricketer’s Arms.
Located jut outside the MCG, many sporting folk will make there way here.
So that’s the vibe of the place — sports sport, everything sport.
My first knowledge of Cricketer’s Arms was the beer itself, a wonderful fruity brew the billboard told me I should get two of. I was so excited to find a pub with the same name I assumed they were related.
It was not meant to be, while the vibe was nice, it was plane to see the two had little in common. There’s nothing fruity about the pub. It’s a simple, standup no-​nonsense number that is a great place to have a quiet one in the off season.
