A new Indian restaurant hidden away near Coles in North Rose Bay. It was established around a year and a half ago, in early 2010, and has been suffering from it’s strange location. Overall it’s an Indian restaurant featuring popular and traditional Indian dishes alongside some contemporary and creative menu items such as dosas and thalis. Although the atmosphere leave a bit to be desired, but the friendly maitre d’ is obviously doing his best to make Bay Leaf a satisfying dining experience. Although the clean modern layout with leather backed chairs, the large glass doors onto the quiet road, on a hot summers night brought on a desert like sweat, without air-conditioning, maybe an optimist would call that traditional Indian atmosphere. With such a uncomfortable atmosphere, combined with spicy food, we really wanted to finish quickly and get out of there, although the waiter decided to be somewhat complacent and slow, although it wasn’t busy, and our quick dinner turned into a 2 hour sweat-contest. We started with vegetarian samosas 2 pieces for $ 6.60 and«masala dosa» which were very simple, and tasty. Unfortunately our luck had changed for the mains, as we contemplated the small sized dishes, more like tapas sized than Indian meals. We ordered a Lamb & Vegetarian dish, which were underwhelming to say the least, they were drowned in sauce, and had very little substance, apart from the side of Nann & rice.
