For years I’d driven past this small set of shops withiut giving it a second thought until one day a friend of mine introduced me to the wonder that is Choco Canelle and I’ve made this place a weekly Saturday morning ritual before I start my day. Thank goodness it’s so close to home! Coffee here is great and as for the desserts, well, where do I start?! Croissants are some of the best I’ve had outside of France, lunettes, petit fours, brioche, quiche –all fantastic. The staff that work here are really nice and if you get in early enough you’ll be able to see things being pulled fresh out of the oven. There were a few seats set up outside but as of the last few weeks that hasn’t been the case as someone made a complaint to council which is an utter shame!!!

We headed there mid-morning and so there were limited options for pastries and other goodies. We bought a brioche, pave au chocolat and an apricot Danish with two flat whites for $ 17.50, which we thought was reasonable given the taste and quality. The Danish had crisp flaky pastry with a soft apricot custardy centre. The pave was just chocolatey goodness. To sound douche-y, the brioche tasted just as good as the one we had in Paris. Make sense considering the head chef here is French! Customer service was friendly as was he ! Coffee beans used was Toby Estate. We look forward to heading here again– probably get there earlier so we have a few more options to choose from :)

Tucked away in the thick of Ryde is a little slice of heaven. Popular with the locals, Jean –Francois Perron and his team serve up fresh croissants, pastries, great coffee and amazing looking cakes on a daily basis. They’ve been there for 12 years, with the retail arm in operation for the past 6. Places like Choco Canelle are exactly why this blog exists — I think all readers need to visit this place… yesterday! Overall: Cute and buzzy patisserie which caters for all your entertaining and everyday needs Price: Reasonable — about $ 17.00 for 2 hot chocolates and 3 croissants. The cakes are similar in pricing to a chain like Pattison’s, but the quality is heaps better Taste: A-ma-zing! Décor: More of a takeaway vibe — a few seats set up outside if you’re consuming there

This place is one of the best kept secrets in Sydney, it is tucked away in a suburban area of North Ryde and is owned by french patissier Jean Francois. His macarons are the best I’ve tried in Sydney(and I’ve tried a fair few). I would also highly recommend the almond croissants, lemon meringue pie and petit fours… In fact I’m yet to try something from Choco Cannelle that isn’t melt-in-your-mouth delicious!
