Been to this place a few times and am disappointed. Purchased fresh garlic and when i got it home i discovered it was old a dried out. best before labels on Gnocchi where the dates had passed had other stickers placed over them to hide them the fact where past the date. some great product however care factor seems to be low and quality is rapidly sliding down. i guess thats what happens when you get chinese running an italian inspired grocery store

Since the new owners took over a year or so ago quality has fallen at our former fave grocer. Prices have risen(today we paid 6 bucks for a head of cauliflower), and quite a lot of products are no longer being sold(farewell Jock’s ice cream). fruit and veg prices especially are quite high compared to other stores nearby. Hours have also been slightly reduced, making it a bit less convenient. We’ve started to head down to the Yarraville foodworks for our organic grub lately. They still carry some good niche products but it’s no longer a local fave for us.

So I suppose I am a self confessed foodie which I think is hipster code for a bit of a piggy but hey foodie sounds good so let’s keep that. The west has amazing fresh produce and the Asian markets in footscray are second to none. What was lacking was all of those little yummy wanky luxuries one likes in their cupboard. There was nowhere to get amazing dips, French butters and assorted cold pressed juices etc — you get my drift? Along comes this gem and I can say that my hikes across the river or westgate to Thomas Dux for Phillipa’s hot cross buns are now over. If it is on trend and food well they have it or they will get it for you. My tip is to check out their specials table as there usually is a winner or three there and buy some of their peanut butter and indulge in buying some ham jam for your baguettes for lunch. Now I am just fooding on in this review but seriously this place is worth a shop at before running that dinner party for all those northern suburbs peeps who have«ventured» over to your house for dinner!

I used to work at a high-end Italian grocer store in Canada, which I loved(and the job was alright too!), so I was very keen to check out A Bongiovanni & Son which recently opened in Seddon. Very similar to Leo’s Fine Foods, A Bongiovanni & Son opening in Seddon is just more evidence of the«latte line» moving further west. There is not doubt in my mind that everything under their roof is fantastic quality. It would be nice to be able to pop in hear each week and buy a few of your favourite things, and if you are able to do your entire weekly shop here, then more power to you. Almost everything is very expensive here, although I didn’t notice too much of a price difference in the fruit and veg. Overall, I would pop in if I’m in the area, but if I really want to splurge, then I will head to the deli down the road at Costco.
