How had I never ventured into the doors of Executive Chef until Monday night? Located at the Woolloongabba end of Merivale Street, this is a home-cook and professional chefs wonderland. The first floor is full of any kitchen utensils, bowls, chef uniforms, knives that you would need to cook up a storm. Heck, you could probably even buy the kitchen sink. There’s also a mezzanine level where a full kitchen is housed. My experience was attending a cooking demonstration in this space, and I’m told it’s something they do regularly. While probably best saved for a trip when you specifically need something, it is still worth a trip to explore. Prices are marginally cheaper than general retail and even if you had planned to, you probably won’t leave empty handed.

It’s been a while since I visited Exec Chef and I must say, either the range has improved or, I really hadn’t paid attention before. There a bit of everything here — tools, pans, equipment for preserving, baking, chef’s whites and some great books. They also have a cooking school upstairs which was chocka block on the morning I visited so it says volumes on how popular the classes must be. If you haven’t visited, it’s worth a look — I bet you won’t leave home empty handed!
