«All you can eat wings… If we bring them out before you fall asleep»… Avoid the Scoopon Deal. Your next plate of wings will arrive 1 – 2 hours apart.

This bar is a cracking place for a few social drinks. It has an awesome quirky retro feel, with lots happening around you. Good banter for a few drinks before or after eating at one of the restaurants close by. Thumbs up…

Worst service in Australia! We were looking forward to lunch before walking on St. Kilda beach. This place has a good location and friendly staff, but come on – 45 minutes for a hamburger? Seriously. At least they refunded my money but absolutely the worst service in our five weeks in country.

I walked into 29th apartment happy that at least something was open on a Tuesday evening. Not only was it open, but they seemed to be having casual drinks at the front with a poker tournament at the back. This place is cool, makes you feel that you have just arrived at a friend of a friend’s penthouse and it is time to explore. From chairs around an old bbq converted table to picnic rugs, this place is great for casual drinks, overseas guest, pre drinks or post drinks. Staff are super-friendly too, the only think holding me back from a fifth star is an expensive menu.

You’re in St. Kilda, you want a drink, you want to sit outdoor, you want to sit indoor, you want to sit on a mushroom, you want to sit in a bathtub, you want to sit on a bed and play connect four with your mindpower and watch people play pinball. You want to stare at a fishtank, you want to watch a video but the cover has food menus, you need to go to the toilet, there’s Barbie dolls telling you that you have boobs or balls. There’s a phone booth with an iPad inside where you take photos of yourself. You spend the next 10 minutes trying to delete these photos and 20 minutes trying to steal the iPad. Maybe you just need a drink and a big plate of fish and chips.

«Yeah, there’s a dildo in the fish tank next to the bathtub. So what?» I love this bar. Life-size Jenga, a wall sticker TV where Mary Poppins is regularly projected, pinball & foosball in the back, funky music like Notorious BIG or Girl Talk always blaring… This bar has spunk. The décor is meant to look and feel like a NYC apartment, although I’ve never met a New Yorker who could afford to have a phone booth shooting out instant win tickets in their living room. There’s not an actual chair anywhere in the place. Things you can sit on at 29th Apartment: mushrooms, milk crates with cushions, a bed, a bathtub, a BBQ, an old TV.(Clearly not your ordinary pub.) The patrons are a classic sundry of St Kilda, and a refreshing myriad of «atypical». Drinks are pricey and food is decidedly less than stellar, but the atmosphere is second to none. Go on a Wednesday or Friday for $ 1 pizza specials.

I applaude 29th Apartment for their fun and kind of wacky décor. Decked out like a New York style apartment, There are plenty of little strategically placed items that will have you exclaiming and really enjoying your surroundings, particulary on your first or second visit. Im sure some people dont like the kitsch, but honestly I think there are enough bars in this area that have the modern, trendy bar look down pat for people who arent interested in something a little different. There seemed to be alot of birthdays here when I went, so perhaps that added to the fun vibe of the bar too. The staff were nice though, and the drinks were strong enough for my liking. Grab a pizza or some food here too — the menu is relatively cheap and the grub is decent too.

Stepping up to 29th Apartment on Fitzroy Street in St Kilda, you can immediately sense the fun and zany vibe. The popular bar/restaurant is made to look and feel like just that — a New York style apartment — complete with faux grass, a white picket fence and a simulated bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and lounge. Foosball, pinball, board games and my personal favourite, life size Jenga, provide plenty of laughs and entertainment over a cocktail, wine or beer. Meals are all very reasonably priced, with tasty appetisers, pizzas, main plates and desserts ranging between $ 6-$ 17. Functions, I believe are 29th Apartments’ specialty; after having my birthday drinks here in June, and more recently celebrating a friend’s birthday, the friendliness of the staff and the easy, relaxed nature of the venue make it the perfect spot for a casual celebration. The recent birthday girl was even surprised with a tiered«cake» made entirely of shots which I can guarantee you, went down a treat. Lounge seating is arranged in circular type formats in the open plan space, allowing your private party to secure their own ‘area’. Whether partying with the local backpacker crowd on a Wednesday night(in which the venue gets fun and rowdy) or having precursor drinks on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, 29th Apartment is the perfect place — with a bit of a twist — to meet friends.

I’m a fan of the 29th Apartment, i think the random house hold items spotted about works well. I especially enjoy the Sunday sessions, they have $ 3 fish and chips baskets which are a great little snack o line your stomach before taking on one of their giant fish bowl cocktails! My favourite is the Prohibition Punch a big mix up of Rum, Grand Marnier, cranberry, lemon and passionfruit topped off with sparkling wine, just see if your head doesn’t spin after that one! They also do Margarita Monday’s with a good selection of classic and some uniquely created versions as well, who said Monday wasn’t a good day for drinking? I have always found the staff to be fun and friendly at the 29th Apartment, they are very willing to help you organise birthday celebrations, private areas etc. 29th Apartment is a good place for a casual drinking session with mates or cheap and simple snack on a nice Summer’s day.

I gotta feeling that 29th Apartment is one of those places that frankly sounds a lot more awesome than it really is. Or, like communism, is way better on paper than in execution. It’s a super kitsch idea — a bar fitted out to look like someone’s apartment… complete with bed, fishbowls, ironing board, wardrobe, garden and tv. The ‘wardrobe’ component is actually a swapsies rack where you can bring an item of clothing you don’t want(or just take one off) and switch it for free for something on the rack. If a sporting team has spectacularly lost, expect to see a lot of scarves. In practice though, it’s just a tiny bit sad. The food is alright and the beverages okay. That said, if you were pretty hammered when you arrived, this place would probably be hilarious and clever.
