Joe’s has had a bit of a make over(sometime ago) and is no longer the ram-shackled greasy Joes’s it once was. Again, this place serves up another incarnation of American diner style food, though I’m not sure how authentic it is. Still it’s pretty good. There are a few good beers on tap, and other drinks on the menu. Burgers are not massive, infact servings a reasonable size and overly huge/over done. The cheeseburger is rather tasty. Joe’s is the sorta busy all day place with lots of families, and groups but the food is a crowd pleaser. Tasty American style food but quite noisy. Some of the cocktails look nice…

I was looking forward to some good old fashion American BBQ, so I headed to Joes. Well, I’m still looking for some good old fashion American BBQ as Joes was a bit of a let down. The menu looked great — -an assortment of burgers, ribs, and American favourites such as corn bread and deep fried chicken fingers. There is also a nice selection of beers on offer. We came a few days after the St Kilda festival, and maybe that was the issue. A lot of the food tasted stale and/or reheated. The corn bread was a bit dry and I felt like it was lying out for hours if not a few days. My dining companion’s burger was too well done. The ribs though were a winner, tasty, with great bbq sauce. These aren’t American style fall off the bone baby back ribs, but larger drier ribs, nevertheless they were still good. All in Joes is solidly in the 3 stars camp(I’m a bit surprised about the high ratings from the other Unilocalers), a fine option if you’re in St Kilda and really aching for American style food, but certainly not a destination spot.

Service here is great. Highly recommend: Fish taco — Fish taco is per serving so order as many as you’d like to eat. Sweet potato fries — Sweet potato fries are freshly cut and fried. Not too oily or dry. Very well done! Southern fried chicken — Goes well with the chipotle mayo sauce. Love the deep fried skin. The chicken is juicy but not oily. Wow. Baby back ribs — Squeeze some lemon and enjoy it with the BBQ sauce. The ribs are smokey and tasty. Finger lickin good ;)

If you’re looking for southern style food south of the river, give Jo’s a bash. Excellent sliders.

What a shock to the system when my family went here the other night! I was craving the most delicious burger and chips and knew that in the past, Joe’s had helped me out. I was excited because they had a sign posted outside that they had a new menu but needless to say the excitement was short lived. They’ve now changed their menu to focus on shared plates, which to be honest, I’m not a fan of. Where they use to have a few options of different burgers, it’s turned into 2 options. The shared plates, majority of what is there, I doubt I would ever venture to share. They’ve changed their chips to a different style and I didn’t even venture to try the onion rings for fear of disappointment. I had their special which was a pulled chicken burger with salsa verde and it was quite good, although I think I was so bummed about the new menu and the stuff that was missing that it ruined my night. Hopefully this will get them more business but as of now, they’ve lost a few loyal customers.

Very disappointing. Didn’t enjoy either course I had. Ordered a Medium cooked steak, it came out on the rare side of rare. Sent back came back medium rare and was tough and chewy. I enjoy friendly service, but they were having a quiet Friday night and the staff member kept coming over, incessantly. Won’t be back.

In a suburb that has lots going on but not a whole lot GOINGON, Joe’s is a great place for a reliably good drink, a solid meal, friendly service, and a bill that isn’t going to send you broke. Once upon a time, this was the home of Greasy Joe’s — known for big hang-over busting breakfasts and back-packer fuelling greasy burgers. Now, the ‘Greasy’ has been dropped and while you can still get a(very good) burger you can also get a glass of wine or cocktail to go with it. Or, if you’re over the bun-fest, there’s a zingy calamari salad, delicious lamb skewers with a cabbage, mint and pea salad, grilled corn, and the drool inducing pulled pork shoulder sliders. The selection behind the bar continues to grow but so far the gin collection, capable(and easy on the eye) bartenders and wine list keep me pretty happy. I’m excited to see how Joe’s becomes as much of an institution as its once Greasy cousin was — becoming well known for all the RIGHT reasons.

I know I’ve said it before, but the tune«Killer Joe» by Quincy Jones epitomises this establishment. Cool, sexy and great with alcohol. Whilst I’m sure Joes have a great range of meals, I haven’t managed to get past the selection of burgers. Priced at what I would consider the top end for a burger, they are worth every penny. I’ve sampled a few now and each has its own nuance which cements it into your memory banks. Ill be sure to update my review if I ever decide to stray from the burger menu, but for now its burger and pint Monday for the foreseeable future. Come down and tell me I’m wrong!

I went to Joes just the other day and I had the most amazing burger it was juicy, succulent and it got better and better every bite I took. The staff and Joes are very inviting and I will be seeing them again soon I am sure.
