Excellent food. We went on Sunday night and it was pumping! Had a heap of entrees, spring rolls, curry puffs, satay sticks, and quail

We stopped in here on a hot day to give this place a try because we kept saying we wanted to try it but would forget about it due to the location. We were pleasantly surprised with the food, super fresh and full of the right flavours in the right dishes. The prices are excellent for the quality you get, however the staff don’t seem to be able to communicate very well. Unsure if it’s the language translation or what but a few times when we asked for something, we received a blank look. When the check came, our credit card slip didn’t match what was on the receipt and when questioned we were told there’s a surcharge on credit cards. This information was not posted on the menu or on the front door. When asked where it was posted we were told it was posted on the bar which of course we never went up to because we were sitting at the front of the restaurant. Definitely not the best customer service, especially since they had already ran the credit card before telling us about it. We were then told we could speak to the manager because the waiter couldn’t help us in any way!!! Extremely disappointed!

And now I need to call the credit card company and file a dispute… geez. As with most St Kilda faire, it’s always worth a kick to try each place at least once. The same cannot be said for Quan 88. Food was… okay. Came super-quick though, which was especially good to be able to get the kids fed quickly. Except that quick enthusiasm feels like you’re getting rushed through each and every plate they bring. Not done? Here’s the next two or three courses. Price-wise, they are on par with their Acland Street brethren… but here lay my problem: they don’t take American Express, and also(without warning, unsolicited and unadvertised) charge a fee to use credit cards in general. This fact is why I have to call my bank. When I disputed this with the waiter, I was told it was«store policy». Further discussion and come to find out, the only mention is a little 10 cm sign up the back of the restaurant… in a place that no customer actually ever needs to go — not even walked past if you need to go to the loo! Opportunities given to fix this ‘oversight’ at two occasions upon presentation of two different cards proved fruitless. Will not be returning… and the bank can deal with them.

What a pleasant find on a cold breezy night. The food was satisfying for all of us. The beef appetizer was flavorful, the dry noodles(bun) with grilled chicken was delicious(nice sauce!), and the two noodle soups — beef and chicken phở — were perfectly comforting. For the first time in history, our two small kids finished a whole bowl of phở on their own, and it was a huge bowl. The bean sprouts, the sliced lemon and the leaves were fresh, and the red spicy sauce(sriracha) somehow tasted better than the ones back home. Portions and prices were fair, and the $ 5 house wine was a good deal. Coming from Singapore, we were shocked by the bill. What impressed me the most was the service. The staff were attentive to our needs with two small children and were very accommodating. They surely made it easy for us.

Hey Vietnamese food gets me very time, so when a friend suggested we meet here one Saturday morning for a phở — I jumped at the chance. When I was there it wasn’t too crowded, the staff were so very nice and my phở was delicious. I must admit it was good to venture out of Prahran for a bit as I hadn’t been to St Kilda for a while, it’s usually where I hang in summer. If you are wanting to try a different Vietnamese eatery I would definitely recommend Quan 88

Hooray! The chaotic Quan 88 has finally made its way to the south! Branching from it’s sibling in Abbottsford, this restaurant is just the same. Still offering an expansive menu of tasty Chinese and Vietnamese fare, it’s a little more expensive, but all of your favourites are still there. The dining room is much nicer at St Kilda too, with dark wooden tables and padded benches that fill out the large space. The prawn spring rolls and chicken ribs are always a must order for me, and the servings are always huge no matter what you’ve ordered. Service could be a little more accommodating, and watch for the waiters who try to dump misplaced dishes on your table. Tip: Keep an eye out as some of the menu items are doubled-up and have different prices!
