Pretty good, affordable and quick Vietnamese food. I love their sausage vermicelli(23). It is so fresh and the sausage is perfectly charred with a very sweet and savory flavor. For those who like vermicelli salads, their dressing is a bit less sweet and a bit more spicy and more fishy than most Vietnamese places(which I really enjoy). The flavor profile is an unusual departure from the clingingly sweet fish sauce dressing recipe’s at other Vietnamese restaurants. The sauce could use a bit more acid, but it is still quite nice. I found their spring rolls to not be that good though as the wrapping was a bit tough.

The food is quick and the service is okay. But it is very far from what you would expect for vietnamese food. Servings are limited and the taste is off from the standard set out there. Not bad compared to the other options at uni and close to uni. Recommended if you can’t get yourself out to Sunnybank. Do your tastebuds and wallet a favour, go to Sunnybank.

Chez Tessa is one of those places that people utterly love until they hate it. I suspect that it falls victim to its volume — it’s constantly busy, and every now and then someone will get truly awful food here. Pros — it’s probably the cheapest option in St Lucia/Toowong, the serving sizes are huge, and there’s a good range of Asian drinks. Cons — every now and then they turn out a dish that really should never have been thought of, let alone made. Abysmal service. I won’t eat there again personally, though it was ok while it lasted — you may have better luck than I did.

I have just returned from Chez Tessa(after marking more uni assignments than I care to remember and desperately needing time out!). This is my second time there and was further impressed. I had the chicken fat noodle dish($ 9.50) and my dining companion had the chicken wings($ 6.50). Absolutely delicious and huge servings! Another plus is that it is always full of Asians… always a good sign for a Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant. Definitely not flash in appearance, but one of the few restaurants open all day on the St Lucia strip. Will be back!

Works Burgers at Chez Tessa are as close as they can be to burger divinity. Along with their slightly runny egg and old school pineapple, you’ll be taken along for the ride on cheap but wholly fit-for-purpose plastic garden furniture. Yes, if you close your eyes you might be at your Dad’s BBQ or in the middle of the outback at a real truckie’s diner. I last had a burger at Chez Tessa(French: «With Tessa» Vietnamese: ?) five years ago and I still dream about it sometimes.

Chez Tessa Take-Away does not look like much from he outside. Lining the walls are hand written menus, there are white plastic tables outside and a fridge filled with a range of Asian drinks you don’t normally see around. But oh my does this place have good food. The service isn’t great. I hardly think they smile but what does it matter when they serve you up the most massive sized meals that cost you under $ 10. Seriously it is always more food than one person can consume. Try the fried chicken or their various noodle soups. Chez Tessa always has people there as it is a known for cheap food well within any student’s budget. Located in the heavily student populated St Lucia, I can’t help but love this little place for its cheap yet fantastic food.
