Spaces + Places is an overpriced and largely over-the-top space full of space fillers, shiny metallic fake fruit and ridiculously priced seats(think $ 800 for a single retro office chair). They do however have some gorgeous leather lounge suites, but they’re also very pricey, along with candles and lots of fragrances. You exit the store wondering what was actually in it. What were all those little objects? Statues, fancy receptacles, pillows of all varieties of fur, and some cute book-ends and footrests/stools. I cannot say I would ever fill my house with such expensive dust-collectors, and I struggle to get a sense of the style, beyond modern or avant-garde. They sell statues of words like«laugh» and«love» and the like, which I didn’t mind until I spotted another section with the same types of statues saying«LOL», «WTF» and«OMG». Please tell me these are meant to be ironic.

Spaces + Places on Magill Road is small on space but big on ideas when it comes to home decorating. Just a browse through the shop is enough to get those decorating juices flowing! Smack bang in the heart of the Magill Road home decorating shops, Spaces + Places has a lot to live up to with such competitive pieces on offer in the shops all around it. I do think they can hold their heads up high with what they have on offer. With mainly contemporary decorating pieces for sale, I love their lamps and cushions. I did fall in love with their range of garden gnomes and will be going back to make a couple of purchases when I’m a little more cashed up. Even when I’m not buying, this is the kind of shop I like to visit several times before I make a purchase. After all a lot of their pieces are big ticket items and not the kind of thing you buy on a whim. Worth a visit if you’re looking to jazz up your home.

Spaces + Places is one of those few wonderful shops on Magill Road where you walk in and just wish you had a better job with a higher salary. It’s fairly small inside and you can walk around in about 20 steps. They have lovely furniture though, ranging from modern plastic chairs to wooden coffee tables. You’ll also find lamps and pillows in decent or very shiny colours and a nice selection of home decoration articles, which are probably the only items in there that I could afford. Definitely a great place for gift ideas such as vases, decanters or candles.
