This is a regular weekend brekkie/morning tea spot for us but i do sometimes take issue with a couple of things about this Millies. I understand Sunday mornings are not always pleasant for some people, but if you’re hungover and not über enthusiastic about having to work, you should try not to bring that attitude to work in a customer service role(i have 6 years if hospitality experience under my belt so i know what I’m talking about). Slugging through a customer’s order at a snail’s pace and being over the top apathetic isn’t a good reflection on the business(or your employer) but sometimes that fact gets lost on people. Also, if you make a mistake on an eftpos machine and get queried on it, even if it is only 30cents, don’t react like the customer is being an a*se(actually, although this did happen this morning, once the issue was resolved the staff member in question was apologetic. I just mention it because i didnt order a kransky and coffee with a side of attitude) In summary, maybe proceed here with a degree of wariness about ‘tude from the staff. The food is usually great, although the potato pie i found quite bland. Coffees are good and the sweets are really good, as are the brekky rolls. I will continue to patron this bakery but i do sometimes walk out with a more sour than sweet taste in my mouth.

As a vegan, I often find grabbing a quick bite to eat to be painful. It’s often filled with«can you tell me if this has dairy o eggs in it?» or «do you know what’s in this?» and after all of that, I buy a whole meal salad roll with no butter, no cheese and no mayo. Boring! I walked in here and kicked of my usual routine questions and straight away the server asked if I was vegan. Then she grabbed a folder from behind the counter which contained a list of menu items I could eat. OMG — a bakery that gets it! Needless to say, she could’ve spat and shouted at me after that and she’d still get a 5 star review(note, she didn’t spit or shout). The vegetable pasty and muffin I walked out with was delicious and I will certainly be back.

As part fo the Millie’s Bakery family across the Adelaide Hills, this Stirling branch stands strong with the rest. I don’t know what it is about hills bakeries but I like them better than their city counterparts. Must be the fresh air. Anyway, Millie’s offers everything you would expect a bakery to. There’s the racks of normal and artisan bread, the pastry oven, the other baked savouries like quiches and whatnot, and the desserts. All a good standard and I particularly recommend the potato pie in both the tuna and beef incarnations. Freaking delicious. There’s also a pretty good sandwich bar where you can pack a hearty fresh baked roll with most anything you desire. Get there early for a sanger though because this shuts up around 3pm. The dining is a high point of this bakery. They offer table service and have plentiful indoor/outdoor seating. The coffee’s good too(very important). I also like that they cater for those of us who need gluten free food. Considerate, and it’s probably a pretty lucrative market to harness.
