Franklin Gallery

Tucked away on Hood Street just off Station Street, I would never have known this little gallery existed if I hadn’t been walking to the Subi markets. The bright yellow sign near a somber warehouse saying Art Gallery in a modern font with cute little cages illustrated on the side caught my eye and my curiosity and I had to have a look what this building was hiding inside.
From the sign I had already started imagining what sort of art work would be stocked here; fairly modern, quirky and highly designed so when I walked in and saw what it was housing I was a little disappointed. Unfortunately the logo is really not reflective of what’s inside the gallery and because I had a preconceived idea and it didn’t meet my expectation or my taste, disappointment followed.
Don’t get me wrong though the art work in here is quite beautiful, all created by Laurie Franklin there are lots of stunning abstract paintings which I could see perfectly in a modern house, restaurant or business, nudes and glass work and because the gallery space is actually quite large the artworks really standout. The only thing I was confused about was all the different styles, I didn’t realise at first that this was all the work of one artist. Good place to come if you’re looking to buy art, but personally I didn’t see anything I would consider a master piece or innovative.
