I did not go to the shop. I phoned looking for a tarot reader. The poor service on the phone put me off. Lady on the phone: hello(abrupt and rude) Me: hello, is this Wild Things Lady: hmmm Me: Okay could you tell me if there is a tarot reader there? Lady: No reader today Bad customer service — on the phone! Not interested! Besides, there was no reader

The entrance to this shop is so intriguing that you can’t help but go in as you pass. And the interior doesn’t disappoint either; it’s like stepping into a magic forest from an Enid Blyton book. Whilst I’m not exactly a practising witch, I do enjoy a good rummage round a shop full of fairy-related things(like any girl). This is exactly the sort of shop that would have had me in raptures when I was eight years old — when I was in here two little girls had to be forcibly dragged away from the display of fairy ornaments by their mother(and who can blame them? Fairies! Yay!). There is an extenive collection of books on magic, astrology, spirituality and things of that ilk, and some clothes that, again, wouldn’t look out of place up the Magic Faraway Tree. It’s also a good place to stock up on incense — they have every sort and flavour you can imagine, and you can get a whole load for only a couple of dollars.

Remember that scene in the craft when the coven of teen witches walks into an esoteric shop and it’s like they’ve entered a parallel universe? That’s how I feel about Wild Things. Not being a particularly religious person, I have a fierce fascination when it comes to other’s beliefs. Wild Things is like a museum of magick to me, overflowing with pentacles, fairy lore and other pagan totems. The trendy outer city suburb of Subiaco seems rather an odd place to put such a store. Located across from Saba and just a few doors down from high fashion retailer Ricarda, you’ll see what I mean when you enter Wild Things — it really is as if you’ve plunged down the rabbit hole and chanced upon a gathering of fairy folk. The ladies who work there are super friendly and relaxed. Sometimes they’re seated up the back giving palm readings, but are always quick to acknowledge a mortal presence in their store. Here you’ll find tarot cards, books on Druidism, spells for love, fairy wings, long and flowing skirts which are just begging for a good twirling in a forest full of elves, and homely decorations to make your domestic quarters feel more magical. One of the best occult shops in Perth by far.
