Description

Specialties

Ozpaddle is all about kayaking — learning to paddle correctly, keeping fit by paddling, enjoying Sydney harbour on a kayaking tour or a team building exercise and imparting knowledge on paddling skills and buying a kayak. Sophie enjoys sharing her passion for paddling through this business located at Andrew Boy Charlton pool. From here, we go to some of the best spots that Sydney harbour has to offer and see them from the best viewpoint, from the seat of a kayak — Sydney Opera House, Fort Denison, the city, Clarke Island, Whiting beach, Murray Rose pool, Elizabeth Bay, Darling Point and Chowder bay. Sophie loves taking photos of her customers on the water and sharing these photos. Her equipment is the best, with Australian made recreational sit on top kayaks and carbon wing paddles, you are certain to get the most out of your experience on the water. As a qualified instructor and guide, Sophie will help you enjoy kayaking, whether just for a one off experience on a tour or the start of a lifetime enjoyment of the sport. Whether you want to keep fit or just see the best of what Sydney has to offer, contact Sophie at Ozpaddle and she will make your experience the best she can!

History

Established in 2008.

Ozpaddle Sydney started just as fitness sessions from the pool, as one of a number of locations around Sydney. In 2012, Sophie took over as the business could not survive on just these sessions and decided to create tours as well as give lessons and take fitness sessions to make the most of the amazing location, doing something she loved as she had two young children to look after and couldn’t manage a full time position. She loves sharing her passion of paddling with others, imparting the knowledge she has gained from competing on the ski and her knowledge of Sydney harbour. Sophie is an Australian Canoeing qualified guide and instructor, with many years of experience competing, taking tours and giving lessons. She is most happy on the water and seeing others gain strength and enjoyment from this wonderful sport.

Meet the Business Owner

Sophie M.

Business Owner

Sophie has always loved the water and always been sporty. She has been a member of North Bondi Surf club since 2001. She taught Bronze medallion for 8 years and completed her 10 years of patrols in 2011. She took up ski paddling in 2005 once gaining confidence and knowledge as a surf swimmer and board paddler. She loved it so much that she became competent quickly due to her commitment to the sport and ended up doing the Coolangatta Gold in 2006 and 2007 even though she had spent relatively little time on the ski. She also was the ski paddler in a girls’ team in 2008 where they placed 4th overall. She has competed in many surf club races, her favourite being the mixed double, over the years and came 7th in Australia in 2011, under a year after giving birth to her daughter. She also won a couple of ocean races in double category in 2010, 2011 and 2013. Other achievements are placing in many longer ocean races and coming 2nd in the Avon Descent in 2009 before children took over her life!
