I was visiting Sydney on a tour and the auto focus on my Nikon 750 starting acting up. The hotel recommended Paxtons. I was greeted promptly — the staff member said they did not have technicians on site but he would try to help. He tried another lens, then another battery, then reviewed my menu settings and then found one switch that was not properly engaged. He spent between 10 and 15 minutes diagnosing and fixing the problem. I said«thanks, what do I owe you?» and he said there’s no charge. Thanks Paxtons.

I dropped off a roll of 35 mm film to get it developed. When I picked it up, the woman behind the counter was so rude. When I got home, I discovered that there is a massive scratch in my negatives. I am almost certain it happened when whoever took out my film from the canister clearly did not know how to do it. If you don’t know how to do it, then don’t. 6 frames are ruined. Absolutely ridiculous. Never coming back to this store again.

Horrible. Horrible staff. We walked in… four or more staff on the floor. yet not one acknowledged us when we walked in. It wasn’t busy; there was maybe one or two other customers there. We walk up to the counter on the side to check out Nikon lenses behind it. No acknowledgment. There was on staff on the computer just beside us printing something out(I assume for another customer) but no nod or smile or «I’ll be with you in a sec» as he stopped right in front of us to pick up his print job. Two other staff chatting away about what they got up to last night just around the corner. Overall, just a pathetic customer service experience from this store. Maybe we weren’t decked out in enough camera gear for them to notice us. Went to Digi Direct and George’s down the road instead. Much friendlier staff.

Credit where’s credits due. I’ve brought 2 cameras from Paxtons plus had photos developed with them and every-time it has been a positive experience. I find the staff to be helpful, well informed but not pushy or overbearing. They tried their best to get me good deals and I found them sincerely kind. They have a wonderful array of cameras and camera gear and even a few fun accessories which can make your creative capturing that much more fun… I’d do my research if I was you before you go… but I would feel confident recommending this store.

Paxton’s is omnipresent around Sydney. With one of the most informed crew letting you in on what’s what about cameras. They have an extensive range to choose from and their prices rival even the most discounted place. They have sales but more importantly they are so up to date with their products that you are getting the latest models and reduced prices for older ones. Every time I have asked for help I get a connoisseur of the camera. They know all there is and I relax in that they really do know what they’re talking about. I also got a print done there the other day. One of the last places in Australia printing from film. It was a very large print and I was worried about the quality when blown up but there was no need, they did an amazing job. They also have framing options there, however I wanted mine customised. The print only cost $ 40 to enlarge which I think is very reasonable.
