A hidden little gem on York St. We were pleasantly surprised by this authentic Japanese restaurant. The staff were friendly and made a fuss of our daughter.

I wanted to give them more stars since the service was excellent. But unfortunately the food was bad. Sashimi wasn’t fresh, teriyaki was terrible and not actually teriyaki. Would say the best thing was their agedashi tofu. The waitress was soo nice but sorry there’s too many better Japanese restaurants nearby. won’t be back.

Two words: pleasantly surprised. We went here after a friend’s birthday drinks. A nearby Japanese place that was highly recommended by Unilocal was full, so we went here instead. I was a bit wary, seeing as it was a Friday night and there were a lot of empty tables. But man, was it worth it! We were directed to a private area to accommodate our large group. I ordered the grilled wagyu beef on a hot plate for $ 20, which comes with veggies and rice. A popular dish in our group was the $ 275 course meal, which comes with miso soup, dumplings, seaweed salad,(sushi & sashimi/teriyaki chicken/grilled pepper beef), and dessert. I wasn’t expecting much from my wagyu, but it was pretty tasty! Again, this is not exactly Kobe beef, but it wasn’t bad for $ 20. It was quite a substantial meal. The $ 27 set was really good value — I was able to get the black sesame ice cream from someone in our group and it was good. Service was quick and friendly. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Will be back if I’m on the prowl for reasonable Japanese food in the area. == Unilocal won’t let me add its FB page, so here it is:
