Sick of getting fruit and vege from the supermarket that is rotten on the inside or goes off in a number of days? You need to visit this little gem hidden away in Toowong Village. Beautiful quality fruit & veges at the same price as the supermarket. They often have little testers of fruit set up so you can try before you buy. Honestly the best peaches I have ever eaten are from here! They also have recently added a little deli section, where you can find a range of cheese and meats. And, if you’re a Coyo fan like me you’ll be excited to know they have vegan dairy free coconut icecream! Yes, pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. The only thing stopping me from giving 5 stars is the limited range of herbs they stock. But other than that, this is my go to for fresh fruit & veg!

My favourite greengrocer’s in the Toowong and St Lucia area. They have a good selection of hard-to-find produce(porcini and oyster mushrooms, star fruit, etc) that you can’t find at the big chains, and the quality is usually excellent. They’re particularly good for fresh herbs: gigantic bunches of fragrant basil and coriander, unlike the small, wilty, shrivelled little sheaves you find in Coles. The deli makes great dolmades and stocks six kinds of truffle oil and salt. What more can you ask for?

Twas the day before Christmas and I needed fresh, plump fruit! Fruity Capers sits on the main floor level of Toowong Village. You can get there by bus or train, but there’s a fun carpark, too. Think spiral staircase for your four wheeled zoom-a-mobile. Ambience *** My first impression of Fruity Capers is that its bursting at the seams. No really, it is! There are displays of fruit impending on the path which leads to the foodcourt; they need more space. Get lost, Donut King, they need an island appendage to spread out onto. You can smell the fruit before you even hit this store which is a HUGE plus for me — you know everything is ripe and ready to go. It also helps if you’re half-blind and need to follow your nose to the mountains of apricots, grapes and melons stacked out the front. There are tasting plates of some of the fruits out front, but you can’t start carrying what’s going to be at least an armload until you get inside to get a basket. Hm. Not quite a smart choice there; I had to navigate my way between prams, restockers’ trolleys, and hassled customers to the cashier to get me a basket and then got stink-eye from a customer who thought I was jumping the line! Eeeeek, just let me get back to the apricot mountain, I didn’t mean it, I swear! Products on offer **** Whew, everything on offer here is ripe, juicy, plump, fresh, yum-yum-yum-I-could-sit-down-and-eat-it-right-here good! I was on fruit salad duty, and me being me and not knowing which fruits my eaterers like, had to get at least 10 different types. Plus presentation is everything, so I needed at least one colour each of the rainbow. Keeping this in mind, the only thing I couldn’t find there was honeydew. Given the awful offering Woolies had the other day of said fruit, I suspect they must be out of season or hard to get. I substituted with the other green fruit which doesn’t go brown: kiwi fruit. Harder than I’d have liked, but given the timing, I knew half a day on the windowsill would push them into acceptable territory. I forgot, just as I joined the cashier’s queue, that I had also put my hand up for sauteed mushrooms and grilled tomatoes. D’oh! Back to the swarm and grabbed myself some very rich looking romas and cute as a button mushies. Service ***** At this time of year, anywhere, I expect to see high schoolers earning some extra cash. If that’s the case here, it looks like they’ve learned VERY quickly the layout and cashiers’ roles. In fact, I’m more inclined to believe their staff are long termers by the way they know their products. I was smirking to myself that I’d nabbed the 2 for $ 6 mangoes at the 2 for $ 5 priced ones until the cashier quick as you could blink realised her booboo and fixed it up. I still smirked: good on her for the catch before I could get away with it. All around me restockers were stacking more fruit and veg to keep up with the incoming crowds; but they weren’t obtrusive, and most of the time when I looked up from my mission I could see blue shirts pointing in one direction or another to help the deadline junkies make their purchases. Additional Notes I’m not local enough to Toowong to come here and buy fruit and veg regularly, however on the occasions I am here for something Toowong-centric, I’ll be adding a stop in to Fruity Capers. Price-wise, they have lots of 2 for $# offers, but I’m not likely to buy two of anything knowing I won’t get through it, it’d be wasted on me completely.

There’s something«a little bit special» about walking into a delicatessen. I always feel like I’m about to discover something new. Fruity Capers in Toowong Village didn’t disappoint when I was greeted with their wall of cheese and discovered a cumin gouda and truffled camembert. Of course, although cheese is important, this deli also stocks an impressive array of gourmet goodies(I counted no less than 6 types of truffle oil). The fact they manage to fit so much into a reasonably tight space is an achievement in itself. Wander in and be tempted by their many cured meats, gourmet spreads, jams and international cuisines.

A household name in Toowong if you ever lived there. Whether you are a busy professional, a university student or a plain old bum you would know they have fresh fruit and vegetables. Whilst not always the cheapest, they do usually provide you with a plethora of fresh fruit to sample as you walk on by their visually appealing shop. They’ve been around for ages and have a good reputation for fresh fruit and vegetables… so the next time you’re cruising the Coles aisles for this stuff, make sure you check out Fruity Capers first. They are always friendly too which helps a lot when you’re unsure of what to choose or planning on putting that new fruit into a recipe from Masterchef.

For anyone who does their grocery shopping in Toowong Village, Fruity Capers is a great shop to stop at on the way out. This deli and green grocers offers a fine selection of fruit, vegetables, fine cheeses, antipasto and dairy products. Like most delis in the western suburbs, some products can be on the pricey side however their fruit and vegetables are priced reasonably. My favourite products from here are their antipasto range(marinated olives are always a winner) and the greek yoghurt. The customer service is nothing special but I have never had issues with the staff members being incompetent or rude.

In Toowong Village and don’t want to buy your fruit and veg from Coles? Never fear, because right next door is Fruity Capers. Entering the store is like walking into a mini farmers market, with all the colours and scents of fresh produce to tempt you. There are often little tasting plates to go with the fruit sections in case you want to try before you buy(who doesn’t?). Prices are reasonable and you can often score bargains on soon-to-be overripe fruits and vegetables. The store can get busy during peak shopping times so choose your times wisely.

Fruity Capers has by far the best selection of fresh fruits and vegetables in Brisbane for the most affordable prices. And you know the fruit here is fresh. Unlike the grocery bigwigs Coles and Woolworths, Fruity Capers never freezes its fresh goods and you can tell this from the fast turnover of stock. You can buy awesome bundle deals when fruit and veg begins ripening too quickly; my favourite deal has got to be two punnets of blueberries sold together at a heavily discounted price. Fruity Capers also has a fantastic range of Asian vegetables, and they are the only fruit and veg place I’ve seen in Brisbane that sells kale. And the staff! Friendliest people you will ever meet. If you make the effort to swing by Fruity Capers during your next grocery run, you won’t regret it.

Fruity Capers gets people in with its stunning array of brightly coloured fruit and its tasters. Whilst a good alternative to Coles next door, it wouldn’t be my choice of fruit barns. I find it to be a bit pricey and because it’s in a busy shopping centre, it’s noisy and often quite busy. I prefer a more laid-back shopping experience and avoid shopping centres all together, but if you can cope with the hustle and bustle, Fruity Capers is ok.

I was working at Toowong for a few months, and one of the highlights was being next to Fruity Capers. This greengrocer /deli combo has incredible vegie specials that always draw me in. Everything is fresh and attractively arranged, and the staff are super friendly. The deli has a great range, but I must admit I tend to buy that stuff from Balaclava St so I stick to the bargain bags of tomatoes.

I love this deli for its selection of olives and peppers stuffed with all sorts of delicious things and their yummy salads which are fairly inexpensive. They also have a pretty large selection of gourmet cheeses, ice-cream and other delicatessen style foods. If you want to pick up a few things for a scrumptious gourmet picnic at Mt Cootha they are very convenient. I don’t shop in the fruit and veg section because generally everything is cheaper and just as fresh at the Coles just around the corner.

Fruity Capers is great for fresh fruit and vegetables. They always have a wide selection avaiable and great prices on in season produce. Their fruit and veg is always fresh and tasety. I particularly enjoy their Asian veg section, as well as just the countless piles of delicious fruit. Fruity Capers also has a Deli attached with some of the nicest marinated olives around and a good range of cheeses. Definitely worth checking out. Fruity Capers is situated in Toowong Shopping Village on the ground floor near the Coles supermarket.
