Brickworks Markets & Leisure Complex is sometimes extremely busy and other times people are a bit thin on the ground. It’s a pretty interesting place to bring a tourist it is a historic building — used to make bricks there — with lots of retail stalls inside a big hall with food and a variety of gift type goods with some clothing, second hand toys and books as well as fresh fruit and vegetables, a bakery, butcher and confectionery stores on site. It seems to be a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll, there is a pet shop next door to a couple of food shops, just opposite a large poster and frame shop… a bit of a mixed bag really. Bakery, bottle shop, butcher. You can ride go carts or just sit and relax. There is a lot of free parking, and if you fancy a wander there is a bike track beside a creek next door, so while it is an interesting spot to go for a light meal or even a baked potato with cheese, it can also be a little boring after you have had a walk around. If you are shopping you are more likely to spend most of your time and energy down in the lower area next to the car park. If you venture up the stairs that’s where all the stalls are, and the go carts… it can be fun, but when it’s quiet it can also seem pretty lame.

Brickworks Markets is a great place to visit on the weekends. If I lived closer I may well do my fruit and veg shopping there though because it is very cheap and lots of range in the market sheds. Plenty of on site car parking although it does get busy some weekends. Is beautiful in summer when they have bands playing. A good place for fun with mini gold, bumper cars, go karts and arcade games, but also a great place for shopping with all sorts of stuff available inside. There’s some gift /variety retailers, sports store, pet shop, a guy that does specialised stickets or signs, prints, rugs, clothes and more. Some of the kids clothes there have been really cheap and have things on them the kids know. There’s also a great food court style area with basics like Wendy’s for the kids and some great chinese meal deals available as well as some other cuisine. Enough that there is something for anyone’s tastes and the prices are really cheap. And on you way out you have to make your last stop the famous English Lolly Shop. An original old lolly shop. It is so squishy to be inside but there is so much to see. Lollies as high as the ceiling and although it’s a very confined space they seem to fit so much in. Hard to leave with any les than 2 or 3 items. Then as you walk down the ramp on the way to the car, tired and weary from a big day out, stop at the Mr Whippy and get some amazingly tasty hot cinnamon donuts. They cook them fresh for every order and are not to be missed.
