Have only tried their sandwiches and pastries and they were tasty at a reasonable price. Bring cash though as hey charge $ 0.60 for purchases under $ 10 on card.

Considering Pausa Café is basically in a dingy little wind tunnel, it really does very well for itself. Pausa does a roaring trade for UTS students and staff, and anyone else leaving Central and walking down Harris Street — ABC staff, TAFE peeps, etc. They have a small range of food(good veggie wraps!), and they’re very efficient. They use Toby’s Estate coffee, and their baristas are hit and miss(sometimes excellent, sometimes making a rather bitter brew). Pausa is not a café you’d want to spend much time in, owing to its location, but it buzzes as a takeaway joint. The folks working there are very friendly, and they know everyone’s name.

I was surprised to find this place sandwiched in between a drive way and the UTS design building on miller st in ultimo. The hot meals caught my eye and was torn between the chicken tortellini and the thai chicken noodle salad. I was told they could do half-half servings in their containers and no longer felt troubled by this dire problem. While the friendly girl behind the counter was spooning the meal into the container, I scanned the other meals behind the glass and was happy to see an assortment of cakes and pastries near the espresso machine. Tight on time however, I got my meal to go and decided to not have dessert. After inhaling my meal on a bench while waiting for the bus, I soon realised that creamy Italian tortellini and Thai Chicken Salad don’t go well together. Will be just getting one or the other next time and working on being more decisive.

Pausa Café vies for my affections with Mecca, its more famous neighbour down the street. Some days I’ll even wind up having two coffees because I simply won’t choose between them. Pausa is a super cute little hole in the wall, stacked with ABC employees and UTS students keen to get their sleep deprived paws on some delicious Toby’s Estate coffee. The baristas are a crack team — one visit they were even sporting Mario Bros costumes(?!) — and they’ll work the machines with dazzling precision before calling your name out with a triumphant smile. Meanwhile a clutch of other busy bees are up the back assembling the freshest and most diving looking array of sandwiches. I really need to stop in at lunch time. Oh but I can definitely vouch for their bacon and egg rolls. Those little guys were an absolute lifesaver after a big night out!
